Is there any version or setting on Android x86 to change from a tablet to a smartphone?

I have installed 5.1. successfully on VirtualBox on my Mac. It even recognizes the external WiFi adapter my MacBooks Bluetooth adapter. I want to pair it with my smartwatch, the Moto 360 2nd generation, but it seems to fail because the Android Wear app is optimized for smartphones only.

The Android Wear app is NOT specific for smartphones only.
Surely it works on Android tablets.
(I'm working for Android Wear based project now)

The reason why Android Wear app doesn't work
on android-x86 is still under investigating.

Hello Chih-Wei,

It seems that on Android Wear can not connect to the Moto 360 even on Android 4.4 ...

What's the actual definition of "a phone" rather than "a tablet"?

Is it just some "device type" which the O/S reports to applications, is it the
present / absence of GSM/UMTS/etc hardware for making calls, is it the screen
size / orientation...?

How does an app "know" whether it's running on a phone or a tablet?

Yes, would be interesting to know. Does anybody know how to switch to a smartphone?

Try to remove the line in
device/generic/common/device.mk

PRODUCT_CHARACTERISTICS := tablet

That should set back the characteristics to the default,
i.e., phone.

Hi Vel Asta,

I'll try it at the weekend and keep you informed about the results. Already downloaded the source code from the repo.

Hey Marcel. Did you manage to try what Mr. Chih-Wei Huang said? I'm not near a computer for the next few days cause I'm traveling but curious to see if it worked :)

It's right for 4.4-rX (kitkat-x86).

It just defines the product characteristics.
It may not fit what you want.
Especially, it won't change the
resolution or orientation.
