Hi everyone,

In the past, I have made several attempts at getting android (2.2)
working under a VMware environment with sound, and the talkback
screen reader. I appreciate the help some of you gave me :)
ultimately though, Android lacked sound support with es1371 in the VM
and I could not move forward.

I am wondering if anything has changed since then. I again lack much
sighted support in reading virtual machine screens, or using the
mouse, but would appreciate anyone's help if possible in getting this
to work. Could you see if sound is possible in VMware now that 2.3 RC
releases are out? My only concern is that I did not see a generic
image - which image would work best on VMWare?

Again, I appreciate any feedback. My goal here is to allow
blind/visually impaired users to use Android and be able to "sample"
the OS without them going out to grab an actual phone right away. :)
If we can get this to work, it would be a revolutionary step for
everyone.

All the best,
Tomi

Hi Tomi,
I contacted you about Android X86 via the Eyes-Free mailing list, but no
reactions from you.
But I would like to inform you about my actual situation with my new
device Asus EEE PC X101. I tried to install the stable release of
Android 2.2 R2, but the instalation and live cd crashes after few
seconds of booting.
I am a beginer on the x86 platform, so I decided to try the latest test
build of Android 2.3 RC1. Instalation was successfull and most of
hardware components work great, including Wi-Fi network and sound card.
Unfortunately the ethernet adapter does not work, but it is not big
problem for me.
So Now I am waiting for some sighted friend and we will try to install
Svox Voice and Spiel.
Best regards
