I have Android 7 installed on VMWare Workstation 12 Pro. I'm trying to get apps that requires Opengl to run in the emulator. I've checked off Accelerate 3d Graphics, but as soon as I check it off, it states, "3D acceleration is not supported in this guess operating system." As far as I know, I need VMware tools to be installed in this virtual machine. Is this correct? I can run either Android 5, 6 or 7. Thanks for the looking into this!

Have you enabled 3D Graphics of VMware?

What android-x86 image did you use exactly?
The 6.0-r2 release has 3D support of VMware.
The 7.x (no stable release yet) codebase has
3D support of VMware as well, though
it's not fully tested.

Thanks for your quick response. Under virtual machine settings then display,  I have Accelerate 3d Graphics setting ticked off. Attached is an screenshot. I have Android-x86 7__201609 (64bit).vmdk downloaded from https://www.osboxes.org/android-x86/#android-x86-7_0-vmware

Thanks

Here it's normal, create a virtual machine from scratch with this iso file, and see if it worked.

Thanks for the information! I will try this iso file,  and will let you know what happens.

Thanks
John

I have installed Android using this iso file. Under virtual machine settings then display,  it still states,   "3D acceleration is not supported in this guess operating system." When I start the VM,  it displays a black screen after booting the kernel. Am I missing a step?  Thanks for helping me!

Is there an update on this situation?  Thanks!

I tried Android 6.0 r2. It successfully installed,  and ran. However,  I cannot get Opengl apps to run. Under virtual machine settings then display,  it still states,   "3D acceleration is not supported in this guess operating system." What can I do to fix this issue?  Thanks

What apps did you try?

There are many reasons that cause
apps can't run. Not have to be OpenGL.

To see if OpenGL(ES) works, check
Settings -> About tablet -> OpenGL driver version.
If it's not null, OpenGLES is enabled.

Try the Antutu 3D benchmark which
is known to work.

This message is normal and insignificant.
VMware doesn't know Android-x86.

Thanks for the quick response. The Opengl is working in the emulator. I have been trying to play a game called RoverCraft. Is this possible?  Thanks again!

I noticed Houdini was missing in Android 6 r2. Do I have to enable it to run ARM apps?  If so,  how?  Thanks!
