Android-x86 runs in Virtualbox 5 but hangs in 7

I tried to run the emulator on my modern laptop with Fedora 36 in Virtualbox 7.0.8 but it hangs at the line in the attached screenshot.

I tried my older desktop with Virtualbox 5.2.12 and it can boot the emulator successfully.

What is required for the emulator to run in the modern VB?

you are booting in debug mode

type "exit" and hit enter

I booted in debug mode in order to show you where it hangs. It hangs exactly the same way in normal mode.

that is expected

you can try to boot it in nomodeset for software rendering

If you are a developer, could you test android-x86 under Fedora 36 and in virtualbox 7.0.8 and see why it hangs?

And please do explain what you mean as "this is expected" because it is not clear how to run android-x86 in modern Virtualbox, so it is totally useless.

why are you trying to run in virtual box? it basically is useless. either use QEMU or install it baremetal on the laptop, or use Live-USB if you don’t want to install. Virtualization is always tricky and not guaranteed.

If all major OSs in existence can run in Virtualbox without any issues then it makes perfect sense to run the emulator in it as well. I do not share your sentiment about virtualization, having been a sysadmin for 30+ years. I've run all of them, including exotic OSs that you probably never heard of, and only android-x86 hangs. The lesson from this is clear.

without any issues? you have no GPU acceleration unless you use guest additions, there exist no guest additions for android, you have unsynced audio, you have no libndk or libhoudini translation layer for ARM to x86, i’d say yeah, virtual box is useless. because on QEMU, i’m enjoying my favorite OpenGL Unreal Engine 4 ARM game, on my x86 machine. because i’m doing it the right way.

Look, you are a sysadmin for 30+ years. 30 YEARS. That's more years than my age. Yet, when I ask you to boot with "nomodeset", you don't know what to do and instead you just trying all the "available modes" ??? What are you even do with those 30+ years man ???

Now, the guy above is correct, run the VM with QEMU + virgl because it gives you hardware acceleration instead of just staying on Virtualbox and refuse to change. If you want a build with updated Android and bug fixed (even the rectangle cursor that you reported) then there's Bliss OS. But if you just want to run Android on your Linux desktop and too lazy to run a VM (and you are not using an Nvidia GPU) then just use WayDroid. Don't come here, ask for help, and when people provide help,  you reinterpret it with your own words or don't even try to do what we recommend. That is just disrespectful.

Especially trying to run Android x86 in VB ... And even with certain nix based OSes, Virtual Box sucks for ... But you know, your the 30+ year sysadmin with "ExOtIc OsEs" under his belt ... lol.
