You should not be using android-x86 to test. the android sdk has a built in emulator that works just fine and scales the screen for you. You should also not be using hardcoded sizes, use relative sizes so the app can work on more devices.

If it's REALLY vital that it look right, go buy any 10.1" honeycomb tablet. The Galaxy tab 10.1 is a bit spendy, so you might be better off getting an Asus Transformer. They have almost identical hardware, but the Asus is a few hundered dollars cheaper.
Improving the hardware of the development computers is the best optin. then just run HC in the emulator.
