Come on, developers!
The android-x86 5.0 (lollipop-x86) source
has been pushed to the git server.
Read the GetSource page if you don't know
how to get and build it.
Note you need about 22G disk space
to download the source and additional 26G
space to build one target.

What works:
* Graphic with GLES hardware acceleration
* Wifi
* Sound
* Touchscreen / multi-touchpad
* Ethernet
* Sensors
* Backlight
* Automount sdcard / usb disks (only vfat is supported now)

What may work but not tested:
* The installer
* Boot on a VM
* Touch calibration

What not works:
* Camera (but HAL is ready)
* Bluetooth
* Houdini

Known issues:
* Video playback is buggy on some GPUs
* Suspend/resume
* Annoying dmesg
* setThreadPriority failed (a workaround applied)

I'm still fixing the 64-bit target (android_x86_64).
The most difficult part is the mesa.
If someone is familiar with the mesa
build system, please give me a hand.

I built the lollipop branch yesterday and started testng on my Sony VAIO 11 pro. Wifi works for me, and as mentioned, bluetooth does not. The GPS doesn't work for me either, but it hasn't worked since 4.4.4, so I'm not surprised. My biggest problem at the moment is the touch screen is not working. Is there something I can check to make sure the right modules or drivers are being built? I was also wondering if you have any apps like the terminal. What about loading up google play services in this build, anyone have luck yet?

think that is an ntrig touchscreen....

two choices:

   1) on android-x86-5.0 you can do an lsmod and see if the driver(s) are loaded
       look for something like hidntrig / usbhid

   2) run a live USB of Ubuntu and see if your touchscreen works and if it
       does do an lsmod and see what drivers are loaded for the device(hidntrig / usbhid /etc)

I've been using the same laptop to test android-x86 4.4.4 and the touch screen has been working fine. I also have my system set up to multi-boot, so under Ubuntu 14.10 the touch screen works and the driver is:

hid_multitouch         17419  0
usbhid                 52574  0
hid                   110426  2 hid_multitouch,usbhid
mac_hid                13227  0

$ modinfo hid_multitouch
filename:       /lib/modules/3.16.0-24-generic/kernel/drivers/hid/hid-multitouch.ko
license:        GPL
description:    HID multitouch panels
author:         Benjamin Tissoires <benjamin....@gmail.com>
author:         Stephane Chatty <cha...@enac.fr>
srcversion:     AFE7C4854468C43271D407C

I guess I should boot up 4.4.4 again and see which modules are loading there. I wonder if the hid-multitouch module isn't be built in the 5.0 branch right now. I'll check my config.

using the same laptop to test android-x86 4.4.4 and the touch screen has been working fine

I hear you BUT....we seem to be dealing with multiple issues, ie new AOSP code(5.0) that has been integrated AND new kernel code
that has been integrated(3.10.58).......looking in git shows hid-multitouch driver has been updated from 3.10.52 to 3.10.58...also
some commits / reverts on ntrig..............so plugin on........multi-touch did not work for me on my VPAD10 tablet either but need time to
get back to that issue...

I was able to modprobe the hid-multitouch module after booting up to make the touch screen work. It looks like the module just isn't autoloading right now. I can add a line to the init.sh for now to load it up.

Good news, this version finally got video working on Lenovo Miix 8 2 tablet. I can boot into Android home screen, but there's no hardware acceleration, so everything runs at about 1 frame per second. Touchscreen and most of other hardware doesn't work. When I boot into debug mode error "binder: RLIMIT_NICE not set" constantly fills whole console, that makes debugging impossible.

Any tips on how to proceed further, to get at least display acceleration and touchscreen working?

FWIW:

added hid-multitouch=y in kernel config while doing a rebuild for gapps....wala!! touchscreen works on my VPAD10

also gapps worked with VPAD10 wifi and PC enet....no houdini as Chih-Wei said as dalvik has been replaced by
art....so work to be done there and/or new source for Lollipop!!??

maybe be on old issue has somehow been propagated into binder???? Then again....lockdown / selinux rules maybe
playing a part.....!!!

I'm not sure why that is happening to you. I installed to a flash drive, formatted to FAT32, installed grub and took the 2047 max. Most apps are installing for me. Even gmail, although it can't do anything useful. ES File Explorer is the only app that I did any testing on, and it seems to run without issues.

You originally downloaded the file from playstore on kk and the backed it up so play store is giving u an appropriate x86 version of the apk hence it works
if on lollipop you cannot download from play store hence it is difficult to find an appropriate apk, which i did for fierfox and it worked!!!

Dunno It's Strange I just ran the Live CD off my USB Stick to check to see if it would boot on my computer,  It did, I updated Google Text to speech and Gmail, And They worked fine off the Live CD,  So then i downloaded Total Commander Which Is my File Manager of Choice and it worked fine,  Now that I installed on HD EXT2 Partition Nothing is Installing,

So i figure ok get the GAPPS You Mentioned, and now I'm Kinda Lost as I'm Extremely Familiar with flashing My Phone,  But How do I get These GAPPS Onto my X86 5.0 Install???

AND Why In All That's Holey Would a LIVE CD (That's not supposed to have the Ability to Write) Download and Update and WORK?

Could I have Fluffed the Image Burn on the USB Stick by Updating Gmail Before I actually installed on my HD?

OK just burned the image to a CD in Linux went ahead and let it install grub (and yes lost all my other grub) and installed with the same exact results..... Only other idea is my HD is setup in the bios for AHCI. Which XP had a hell of a time to install on....that's my last idea.... Going to bed and get up and repair my grub (for the 40th time)

the download is impossible because an update of the play store is in progress.

solution

wait a few minutes until the google play store is completely upgraded. If the problem persists, go to settings, then apps, swipe to all and locate the google services. Tap on clear data and then force stop. Do the same with the google play store application.

Doesn't fix it but figured it may help.

Is there a build for processors without SSE3? There was one for KitKat.

Why is SSE3 required for Intel processors? ARM processors do not have SSE3. Someone was working to solve this problem. What's the progress? Any link to follow up on it?

Hi, according to ./core/combo/arch/x86/x86.mk:

"

I just got the 972 error to go away. I installed to HD along side Linux Lite 2.0. No format, no grub install. Here is my 40_custom:

#!/bin/sh
exec tail -n +3 $0
# This file provides an easy way to add custom menu entries.  Simply type the
# menu entries you want to add after this comment.  Be careful not to change
# the 'exec tail' line above.
#
menuentry "Android-x86-5.0-alpha" {
set root='(hd0,1)'
linux /android-2014-11-10/kernel quiet root=/dev/ram0 SDCARD=/dev/sdb1 androidboot.hardware=android_x86 video=-16 SRC=/android-2014-11-10
initrd /android-2014-11-10/initrd.img}

Also, I allowed the "connect to cellular" to run for 5 minutes or so before skipping. All other times I skipped immediately. Google search is not working for me, but at least I can use the Play Store now.

I'm still fixing the 64-bit target (android_x86_64).
The most difficult part is the mesa.
If someone is familiar with the mesa
build system, please give me a hand.

Hi,

I've worked on android_x86_64 build trying to overcome part of the issues with busybox+bionic, ffmpeg,
then I gave a try for  multiarch support in mesa, attached patch and following git have the same changes.

https://github.com/maurossi/mesa/commit/de4c6762759c0b81c506fcbdc6ee2d0a0fdfaa48

I don't know if I took always the right path, but I was able remove almost all errors and warnings for mesa build,
except the following ones:

target SharedLib: libglapi (out/target/product/x86_64/obj/SHARED_LIBRARIES/libglapi_intermediates/LINKED/libglapi.so)
/home/utente/lollipop-x86/prebuilts/gcc/linux-x86/x86/x86_64-linux-android-4.9/bin/../lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-android/4.9/../../../../x86_64-linux-android/bin/ld: error: out/target/product/x86_64/obj/SHARED_LIBRARIES/libglapi_intermediates/entry.o: requires unsupported dynamic reloc 11; recompile with -fPIC
/home/utente/lollipop-x86/prebuilts/gcc/linux-x86/x86/x86_64-linux-android-4.9/bin/../lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-android/4.9/../../../../x86_64-linux-android/bin/ld: warning: shared library text segment is not shareable
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
build/core/shared_library_internal.mk:68: recipe for target 'out/target/product/x86_64/obj/SHARED_LIBRARIES/libglapi_intermediates/LINKED/libglapi.so' failed

make: Leaving directory '/home/utente/lollipop-x86'

#### make failed to build some targets (3 seconds) ####

The other issues I found are described in the last attachment.
I hope that you find it partially useful and I'm looking forward for feedback/suggestions/corrections.

interesting....isn't version of mesa 9.2 in lollipop????

I had seen most of what you had but not the bionic...and a different ffmpeg issue....

so now I question my sync....are you using a straight repo sync for lollipop or are you using a different mesa??

you made no mention of the drm.h missing I encountered...and fixed as follows???

Thank you for the nice work.

For busybox, I'll sync from cm-12.0
which has 64-bit fixed.

The mesa fix is great.
I'll test and check the other issues soon.

It is my preferred way of installing android-x86 since I mostly use Linux. I have done this with Debian based distros - Ubuntu 14.04, Linux Lite 2.0, and antiX-Linux MX 14-2. Key files are:

/etc/default/grub
/etc/grub.d/40_custom

And the program /usr/sbin/update-grub

Hi group,

I tried to compile lollipop on an Ubuntu 14.04 image this morning.
I faced problems that have already been solved on this list, but an unknow (to me) too: fatal error: shared-glapi/glapi_mapi_tmp.h: No such file or directory .

I then tried:

cp ./external/chromium_org/third_party/mesa/src/chromium_gensrc/mesa/glapi_mapi_tmp.h ./external/mesa/src/mapi/shared-glapi/

But the compilation failed. Any hint?

Thanks.
