I'm running the asus image on my Samsung NC10 (WITHOUT the use of a virtual machine) and it says my device wasn't detected and that tablets ARE NOT currently supported... Because maybe Whatsapp uses your phonenumber to identify yourself? because your contacts are all identified based on their number? ...
I've run once on my netbook but via Bluestacks, and it worked... But the Android x86 one don't work because of unsupported device... So i'm also facing the same problem as Dooitze de Jong

install ARM translator on your androidx86 or download from tabletsx86.org. and you can get the tutorial here : http://andromeda-x86.blogspot.com/2013/03/cara-install-whatsapp-di-android-x86.html
