Hello all,

I have downloaded and compiled the source using the Wiki. This was
done on openSUSE 11.1 on an MSi Wind U100 (fairly similar to the EEE-
PC).

After compilation, I burned the LiveCD and it booted/ran properly.

Then, I followed the instructions to install to a hard drive
partition (Copy kernel initrd.img ramdisk.img system.img to /
android). I edited my Grub Menu list to include the Android items.
When I attempt to boot into Android, it hangs when it says, "Detecting
Android". It keeps adding a "." every second or so. I let this run
for about half an hour, and still nothing. Any help on this would be
appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Cappy

PS - Once this is figured out, I will probably be asking for some help
on loading other drivers/modules not in your repository (i.e. WiFi and
sound, etc).

There is a way to install image to hard driver, will that work for you? Also, we have moved our project to www.android-x86.org. The wiki page there is the latest.

If you really want to do the things this way, then you can look into the init file in bootable/newinstaller/initrd to start debug it.

A possible reason is your harddisk controller is not recognized by android-x86 kernel.
Try to figure out what the driver is and enable it in the kernel config.
You may use rescue system like systemrescuecd to see
what driver it uses.

Hello all,

Thanks for the quick replies. I have done a little more
investigating. When attempting to use the installation method via the
LiveCD, the partition I wanted to install to was not available. That
might be due to using a GPT partition table vs. MSDOS. This, I'm
sure, was set while installing OSX, and cannot be changed without a
complete reinstall of the system (I'd rather not do that). This is
why I was going with the copying of files to the desired partition.

While booting into Android using the LiveCD, I entered the terminal
(Ctrl+F1) and typed 'ls /dev/s*'. Surprisingly, this did not list any
of my harddrive partitions. The closest items were /dev/sg0../dev/
sg2. Under openSUSE, the Hard Disk Controller driver is 'ahci', which
is loaded under Android by default.

Any additional help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,

Cappy

Hello again,

It may not be loaded by default. How would I go about doing this?

If you already booted into Android, the block devices
are placed in /dev/block/*
