headless android x86 setup

Hey there! 

The 4.4. build doesn't boot up (stuck showing android logo) when no screen is attached. That makes it impossible to use as a "headless" machine (e.g. file server, audio player)...

Any ideas? Workarounds?

I found hardware dvi dummy plugs that simulate a screen ($ 10). This sounds a bit hacky to me. I'll give it a try but isn't there a solution without buying additional hardware that's faking something? Still curious... :)
