I've been trying to install Android-x86 as the main O/S for a car computer project. I'm running a Via Mini-ITX motherboard with a laptop harddrive.

When I try to launch Live CD to run Android-x86 without installation, one of the lines says:

microcode no support for this CPU vendor
Detecting Android-x86.... found at dev/sdb1 or something like that, flashes too quickly to see.

Then it reboots.

Just to be clear - although all signs point to the obvious - it must mean give up, right? CPU not supported so this won't work?

What's really frustrating is that I was able to get GRUB to install once on a drive that appears to be bad. I was able to select Android-x86, but then I'd get an "Error 2" so I'm assuming it was bad.

Swapped in a drive from a different laptop that I thought worked OK and now I apparently can't get grub to install? When it boots, it loads some grub minimal bash with just a grub> prompt.

At my wits end, about to just install Win7 on this machine and be done with it, but the idea of having Android on the car PC is just too enticing to me lol.

Any words of advice? Should I just give up - CPU not supported?

CPU -> get intel so you can easily use arm compatibility layer
GPU -> best supported one is probably intel built-in GPU, but NOT the
PowerVR-based. Newer intel atoms should be enough.

If you don't have those, then windows is probably your best bet.
