I am trying to add x86 to grub from Grub Customizer because I am a bit of a noob when it comes to linux. After selecting the partition to add I need to input the following.

Initial ramdisk:
Path to ISO file:
Linux image:
Locale:
Kernel params:

Can anyone help out and fill in the blanks?

If you follow these instructions it is easy to dual boot
http://www.webupd8.org/2012/03/how-to-dual-boot-android-x86-and-ubuntu.html

Grub Customizer is needed to make the boot menu appear.

I followed these steps. When I select Android x86 in the grub menu it errors due to not finding the kernel.

That link looks like a PITA.....

Bring up Grub Customize and Add new

set root='hd0,msdos7'
linux /android-4.4-RC2/kernel quiet root=/dev/ram0 androidboot.hardware=android_x86 SRC=android-4.4-RC2
initrd /android-4.4-RC2/initrd.img

That's all you need......Change your partition Info and the directory where the kernel and initrd is and save, reboot.

done.

I'm in my Windows Install at the moment, If the "set root" doesn't work let me know, I'll switch over to Linux and get the Grub Customize I Have....

Same result. I double and triple checked the directory of the kernel location. Error kernel not found :(. Whats curious is if my machine did not like the kernel I would not think it would boot in live mode, but live mode works just fine.

Ok lets start over...

1. What is your Main OS Install?
2. Are you sure your on a Linux Grub or Windows (Which Grub version is your system booting up to? Grub grub2, EFI,)
3. Which Android-X86 Build are you installing?

My suggestion is if your booting to linux (which I'd assume from statements), go in to Grub Customizer, Copy the source code, to a new entry in Grub Customizer, Replace The Linux boot setting for Android and you should be good....

OR format the Android Partition to EXT3 or 4, reinstall,DO NOT FORMAT or INSTALL GRUB, And retry what I've already said....

If you Drill down to the kernel directory and put it in Grub Customizer there is NO REASON for it not to be found...... It's a Boot entry issue (IMO)

Don't mind my partition thing, I'm using GRUB2WIN now because windows and linux don't wanna play together...
But you get the Idea...

Sorry Just noticed on re-read take your linux boot entry and copy it to a new entry, and replace the Partition and Kernel directories for Android.....

When I install grub customizer  it has authentication problems. After several uses it fails to launch.

I suggest to use the search command instead of hardcoding
the root directly:

search --set=root --file /android-5.1-rc1/kernel

> linux /android-5.1-rc1/kernel quiet root=/dev/ram0
> androidboot.hardware=android_x86 SRC=android-5.1-RC1

Unless you have a typo, you have mismatched path
for kernel and initrd: android-5.1-rc1 vs android-5.1-RC1

Note grub is case-sensitive.
You have to make it consistent.
(I believe 5.1-rc1 is the correct one unless
you changed it to 5.1-RC1 on purpose)
