Hello,

I understand that ASUS has released their kernel for honycomb. Is there any recommended kernel version to go with for honeycomb? And if yes, where do we find it?

Thanks
Atul

The ASUS kernel version for Honeycomb is mostly based on ARM/Tegra
CPU.

So you could try to use the x86 part of the kernel even though this
would be a great task I guess, unless you want to create a ARM build.

At the moment, I'm using the kernel used by Gingerbread-x86 to see how
this works with HC. I had to changes many settings in the /build/core
definitions file, and some other places to be able to compile and
create a build compatible with x86. The building process is on the
run, so can't tell yet if I'll succeed... ^^ ;-)

For the moment, just got a little problem as I also wanted to
integrate Ethernet in the build and miss just a little setting. So I
have to restart from the beginning. ;-)

In some hours I'll see if I can have a "fully" functional HC-x86
build. ^^

Honeycomb is not tight to any kernel version.
If you check the Android SDK, the emulator
of honeycomb still uses old 2.6.29.

The choice of kernel heavily depends on
your hardware. Generally speaking,
the newer kernel supports more peripherals,
and supports better.

Currently I'm trying android-3.0 branch
on honeycomb-x86.

did you just do a merge with meld somehow for (/build/core)????

I see many changes..gotchas when using meld on the sources vs.
gingerbread...figure
by the time it takes to change things it'll be released so may just
continue
on my gingerbread fix-ups for tega2 to use on my vpad10...!!!

unless there is a merge function somehow in meld or another way...

Hi All,

I have an ExoPC slate and I would love love love love love to help you alpha / beta test any ROMs you produce based on honeycomb.

I am off to the states in a month and I was debating about buying a honeycomb tablet while over there, if I don't have to then that's more spending money! :)

I appreciate all your hard work guys, this is an amazing project.

-Craig.

Well, that might be true for the newest devices, but the majority of
the Netbooks/Laptops on which the Android-x86 builds are based on are
working quite fine with older kernel version with Linux (and
specifically with Ubuntu).

So I guess the problems are somewhere else...

As an example, the Acer 1825PTZ is working perfectly well with kernel
2.6.32 and single touch. Multitouch is officially supported with
Ubuntu 10.10 with kernel 2.6.37, even though there is an unofficial
backport for multitouch for Lucid 10.04... ^^
