How to know what method to change video resolution

Hi All,

I have seen several methods to set the screen resolution and it looks like it's dependent on the video board driver.

My question is: How do I know what method is the right one?

Uboot parameter? Which one UVESA or video one? 

Or setprop approach?

Besides, do I need to use the 'am display-size' command at any moment?

I'm trying to set a Atom DL2500 resolution and it keeps 800x600 always.
