Android build 20120101 (4.0) is not working on the EEEPC 701, when
placed in a bootable usb. Menu comes up, and when live mode is
selected, it won't go any further.

Also, in Android 3.2, setting are not working.

Have you tried installing it to the hard drive? Installing on hard drives fixes most errors.

I did, still can't get it to boot.

If anyone has idiot proof instructions for me I'm very happy to
follow, step by step, and say exactly what i see?

I've tried live mode from a usb drive, installing from it, various
versions of it from the download area, and just can't get it to work
either.

I'm very happy to believe that the problem is my side of the keyboard,
but can anyone point me at a download that they can actually get to
work for me to try?

Thanks

Hi

Just to confirm, I took android-x86-4.0-eeepc-20120101.iso and created
the usb boot drive by :-
cat /home/nigel/Downloads/android-x86-4.0-eeepc-20120101.iso | dd of=/
dev/sdh

I then booted up the eeepc with the usb drive in, selected "install",
pointed it at the internal memory to install.
The gave me the option to reboot, or run android, picked run.
Loads of stuff scrolls up the screen, then end up with the display
off, flashes on occasionally, killing a process.

Its an Asus 700 ACPI Bios rev 0129
Intel Celeron(R) M processor
Ram 512MB
2GB solid state hard drive

Not sure what otehr info may be useful?

Cheers

Nige

I can confirm the same behaviour, both from SD card or after
instalation on the HDD. The only version which is working for me is
2.3 ... WIth 3.2 RC2 I can boot, but the enviroment is unstable.

Hmmm, trying 3.2 RC2 it didn't even produce a bootable thumb drive ...
(unlike say 2.2-r2 and 4.0)

How did you actually do the sd card bit?

Thanks

Having done tests with the 3.2r2 iso and other iso's, rhe 3.2r2 iso
isn't of a bootable cd.

ICS won't run on Eee PC 701G due to missing Atom cpu - see [1]. Honecomb will run fine - see [2].

Concerning the "keyboard layout" - just have a look into the comment
section of my blog post [b] - there are several suggestions from other
users how to exchange the keyboard driver.
