Hi!

I installed a Android Lollipop to my Asus x101 netbook.

I couldn't play youtbe videos, but when I installed the lastest x86 youtube.apk all videos became playable :)

Watch out. You never know what bugged crap you download from 3rd party sites.

Seems like Youtube from the play store is also working nicely now, I would suggest to get it from a trusted source as well ;)

I've noticed this too, but videos don't have an hd option (or is that just me?)

did you install onto ext4 partition?? If not you'll have issues.

If you download an APK of an app you already have installed from Play Store from another site, and try to install it, it will only successfully upgrade if it is not bugged - the Package Installer does check the new APK's cryptographic signatures against the currently-installed version.

But if it fails to install over the old one, then watch out, it's probably bugged :)

No, for me the EXT4 didn't work, on SSD.

I Used EXT3.

then you will have issues....

why not just use something like GParted live and format your android-x86 partition,
then install to that partition skipping "format the partition when installing" and you can
avoid 90% of the issues your experiencing....plenty have installed 5.1-rc1 and having
minimum issues....learn from what they have done

Instead of "it didn't work for me" find out why, and fix it, because it has worked for plenty of others..

Similar experience as mentioned above. The pre-installed youtube app doesn't give any video,
however when  upgrading it with the latest version in the playstore video playback starts to
function, however no HD option is available (greyed out and content is streamed in 320p).

However when repeating the same test in the browser there it can clearly stream hd content.

my 2 cents
E.

I guess the whole reason it it working now is that the Youtube team decided to allow Software decoding but for SD content only (no HW decoding in Android-x86 so far). Maybe it's possible to hack the apk to also allow HD as the CPU will be able to handle it anyway (probably).
