Hi,

I have been trying to install android_x86 Oreo on an old e-machines PC and whatever I do, I keep getting an "Invalid or unsupported executable format" when it boots with Grub.
What I did was the auto install from the advanced menu, but since I got this error, I tried all other combinations possible, without success (sometimes the error changes and I get an error 17). I also tried with a Nougat stable image and I got exactly the same symptoms. The PC worked fine with windows (slowly, but fine) so I don't think it's a H/W problem. Also, At the end of the installation, if I choose to run android, it runs fine (very slowly though), it's when I try booting that the error will happen. Having said that, there is something strange which may be important: during the installation process, when I'm asked to choose a HDD, the interface hangs for a minute or two before I can choose my hard drive.

Am I the only one ? any idea of what I should try ?

Many thanx in advanced (I am an experienced windows user but not a linux expert)

Marc

What's the boot mode of your device?
UEFI or legacy?

Have you tried to install other Linux distros like Ubuntu?
Does its GRUB work?

Hello,
I had a look at my BIOS and I couldn't find any info on wether it is legacy or UEFI but as it is an old PC (2009), I'm guessing it is in Legacy mode.

I haven't tried installing another linux distribution on it but I am going to try installing an ubuntu tonight to see how it goes.

As for grub, I get to the Grub menu, I select android-x86 and then it starts loading and I get the error straight away.

So far, I think that it may be a software incompatibility as it is an old machine with an Intel Atom CPU. I'll try installing ubuntu to see what I get.

Many thanx, if you have ideas of things to try, I'm all ears.

Did you install the 64-bit version?
Maybe your CPU is 32-bit only.
Try the 32-bit version.

Hi,
The processor is an Atom N270 which is 32 bit, so I only tried the 32 bit ISO which is the one giving me the error. Yesterday I installed successfuly a lubuntu 18.04 32 bit
