Hello, I have a Samsung NC10 Netbook (Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD, Windows XP Home). Since Google removed Chromecast support for 32bit Windows I can no longer cast BBC television content (BBC iPlayer) on to a big screen.
I installed Android 5.1.1 so the NC10 is now dual boot using Grub and have been delighted that this has given this machine a new lease of life.
I installed the BBC iPlayer app from Play store (which supports chromecast), and while the app loads correctly when you try to stream or download a tv program to watch it comes up with an error message saying
"This content is not currently available".
This is the message you get when you try to use iPlayer from outside the United Kingdom.
Clearly it is not the hardware that is a problem, as iPlayer works under Windows XP although chromecast doesnt.
Is there any network parameter hard coded in Android that leads the BBC servers to think my NC10 is outside the UK?
I notice that in the build.prop the local.region=US and have tried to change it with vi to UK but the file is read only and I do not have the expertise to change it? But would that make a difference.
It could also be that the Model number of NC10 is simply not recognised by BBC servers. Is it possible for me to change this to a tablet that I know is recognised by BBC servers such Samsung GT-N5100?
I would be very grateful for any suggestions.
Thank you.
Robert
