I have tried many different android_x86 versions and also phoenix OS none of them would boot up with my nvidia gpu (940 mx) I have tried adding nouveau.modeset=1 i915.modeset=0 i915.blacklist=yes nomodeset it will always boot up with my intel integrated hd 530 graphics, in case of nomodeset it bootsup with Google swift shader SW rendering, if there's any other way to enable it I am ready to try, I have tried with kernel 4.13, 4.14, 4.16 none of  them booted up with my nvidia gpu, I also have tried unpacking system file and deleting the i915.ko file in kernels folder and rebooted it up after repacking the system.img it booted up to Google swiftshader. I have seen many posts where gtx 960 is also working hope I may be able to get my 940mx working as I game on android.

The problem is not to support NV 940mx.
The problem is you have a laptop(?) with dual GPUs
on your device: an Intel integrated GPU and discrete NVIDIA GPU
This is probably called NVIDIA Optimus technology.
To make it work in normal Linux is still a pain.
Not to mention Android.

If you have not tried, search and read related articles, say

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NVIDIA_Optimus
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Hybrid_graphics

If you can succeed to turn off Intel GPU and turn on Nvidia GPU
on your device on Linux, probably there is a chance
you can enable it in Android-x86 too.

For me, I have never succeeded to make these steps
work on my device.
