Assuming you didn't accidentally overwrite XP with android, boot into your linux livecd, figure out which drive is your boot drive (usually /dev/sda) and as root:

lilo -M /dev/sda

This installs a default "blank" MBR in, you can do the same from a DOS bootable floppy with fdisk /MBR

You can also easily back up your MBR and partition tables and save them somewhere safe.

Just to explain what's going on:

You uninstalled the grub config files, but you didn't remove grub from the MBR.

When you boot, grub tries to launch, but can't find its config files, so you get the error.

lil- -M /dev/sda or fdisk /MBR clear the MBR, uninstalling the rest of grub.

I strongly suggest shrinking your XP partition by ~8GB or so and install android to the new partition, using ext3.
(you can probably do this from the Linux livecd you have)

The latest JB iso also works quite well for a lot of folks.

Sorry, typo in previous post, the lilo command to clear the MBR should have been "lilo -M /dev/sda"

Any decent Linux distro has the tools hooked into the installer to automagically shrink your XP partition.

If you want to try something different, Mageia3 beta 3 is out.
Very nice, easy to use installer and system,IMHO, but note you will be running "Cauldron" which is about as bleeding edge as it gets. (but usually remarkably stable, but not good if you pay for your DL by the byte as there are tons of daily updates)

You should do a backup and defrag before trying this just in case.

I use partclone for almost all imaging as i can easily test the saved backup for errors. Partimage cannot do that by itself, or even using external scripts easily.
