Hi fellows,

I had a acer w500 with both win8 & android installed on it.
i removed the partition where android & grub is installed.

Now , it's not booting into anything
it's not asking for F2 etc. keys on startup , just shows acer logo and then blank screen.

Tried pressing windows key+volume up+power up , shows "Please insert usb dvd rom with recovery disc in it then shutdown and restart device" so i do but same acer logo & blank screen again :/

I have the same device. I did the same thing. I remember holding the Windows key on the device and F2 on the dock keyboard while turning it on and not letting the buttons go until after the Acer logo disappeared. This let me into the BIOS. From there I turned on F10 boot selection and shut down the device. Then I took a boot CD (Hiren's: Free for download) and by booting it holding the Windows Key (device) I was able to use the F10 menu and select the CD, and th cd allowed me to boot from the partition that I installed Win8 on, then I booted into Win8. If this works for you, then let me know and if you don't know, I can lead you through fixing the MBR so you can boot like normal

Tried pressing f2 + windows key but same blank screen :/
I doubt mine sees dock keyboard. When pressing and holding any of the volume keys after blank screen it beeps indicating too much of key stroke , but doesnt do same for dock keystrokes.

I do know what the problem is though, the device is trying to boot a partition that doesn't exist through a grub that doesn't exist. If you can't even get to the BIOS, then I don't know what to do. Good Luck,

Would warranty cover this? should i send it to Acer to fix it?

Warranty probably does not cover you editing partitions, unless you have coverage for inadvertently reformatting your drive.
Three options:
1. Try EasyBCD on a bootable USB or CD to repair your bootloader
2. Reinstall Android (which gets Grub back too), then you can edit Grub to boot straight to Windows
3. Use a Win8 repair disk to repair your boot loader

ahh... thanks god, i not bought acer w500 :P
but from what i see ... acer is restricting us ...
like my Aspire One 725... i have tried to run vmware, tried to run hardware virtualization, it said enable it on BIOS. where? i dont see anything -_-
now i cant compile android-x86 :'(
so i think lets move from acer, asus is better :P

and from what i know, if you already disassemble your laptop, the warranty void.
and ... does acer w500 designed to run OS except windows 7? i dont think so...

This thread is help on w500 not opinions sometimes you have to work for things you want.

I usually just make a usb stick for loading the windows installer to get to the repair.

People, the problem is solved by resetting BIOS like almost a month ago. So you can stop trying to help :)

I know which one is the windows button bro. :) thanks for suggestion.

I tried like a million combinations to enter to bios, none worked... im sure it wasnt something i did wrong...

Hi Ahmet YILDIRIM  I think the problem is that you are holding down the Windows KEY to try and get into the bios instead of the windows BUTTON found in the bottom left corner of the device. to access the bios on the Acer W500 you need to hold the Windows button and power on the device at the same time holding the windows button till you see a blinking underscore "_" on the device and mash F2 on your keyboard till you get into the bios!

Yes I decided to mess around with the BIOS to simulate your problem and got the same results. resetting the BIOS fixed it for me and I was just going to post here when I found you had already fixed it :) Sorry if I was being to literal in my last post I work at the local library helping senior citizens with computer problems and I had miss judged a good way to approach the situation.

you need to reset bios, if yours is still under warranty, dont do it yourself imho... send it to acer so it doesnt void warranty if they do it...

Not sure if my W500 device is in a similar state, but I am seeking any advice I can get.  I installed Win8 successfully.  Then tried installing Android - seemed to be working but later in install process screen went blank and its been bricked since - cant do recovery, cant get into bios, no response to any keys (tried them all).  Searching for way to simply reset so I can start over.  Any advice appreciated.

Thanks Ahmet:

Unfortunately the warranty is expired.  It's crazy to me that installing "anything" could put this thing into a state where I can't even get into the BIOS.  I wondered if it has something with the design being based on an SSD, but doesn't make sense to me as I could take the Hard Drive out of My Laptop - Kill it with 10 zillion volts - put it back in - and still quite reliably get into it's BIOS.

Do you have an SD card in it? Probably it's not that, but with my w501 tab, if i have the SD card in, sometimes it gets stuck at the acer logo, sometimes boots just fine..
As a side-note, i cant install windows it the SDcard is in. Weird.

Anyway, it's a long shot, but i hope it might help..

Thanks Florin:

I had removed the SD Card, but unfortunately I still got the same behavor - I never get anything on the screen (no Logo, not even blinking cursor) and it appears not to recognize any button/key inputs at all.  I have learned that on mine the BIOS must be reset, but apparently it's not possible to do this without sending it for repair (and it's out of warranty).  I'm considering that, but I'm not sure I want to spend the money considering the experience I've had with it.

If you already cracked the device open, then just pull out the battery and
reconnect it after a bit of time ...

hi , if you only rip out the "android partition" you cod be able to recover it, download the last HBCD and do a usb pen , google for it its easy , start the hbcd and in partitions/ recovery you will have MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition. do the full searche and only aply the partition you lost, don't mess with he windows partition.

but fist use ubcd to recover all your files , ubcd will give you a windows live cd , so you can do all from it.

use it to recover the lost partition its easy and intuitive. than all will work as usual, then recover you windows boot.

other thing you can tray its do a usb pen with windows install on it and run recovery from there.

if you lost your sistem install partition (factory recovery) you can recovery it by the 1st option i gave you

if you nead any help tel mi

see this link i think it will help you acer-iconia-tab-w500-hard-reset

Can you please check [1] , esp. section 3.0 ? This probably applies to most of
the ML users here.

is that how you help ? i should read it? instead or writing "read what we have gone through in posts. you will find solution." u could just say remove the battery and replace it back , is that hard? i guess u live in germany where u got the UNNICE talk from GERMANS. i will ask an american forum. u never change europeans. we in america see your answer as UNHOEFLICH . now i know why here in america no one likes GERMANS. even if u r turk , but u took from them.

you sir made my day :D this is the most ignorant trolling i've seen in a while :D
but i will remain polite & serious and answer :
Havent you ever heard of the term "search before ask" in forums? well, it seems you havent...
When you read, what we have gone through, you will see i replied 2 or 3 times how we fixed it already...
German?!?! I'm a Turk living in Turkiye... But suspiciously your entry is finished with a german prefix about date.. seriously WTF dude?

After a bios upgrade my Acer W501 Iconia tab was bricked. Black screen and no working.

I have fix the problem
1)Download Acer Bios Driver for W500 for W501 (Updates EC version in BIOS) from support acer website, unzip and open the DOS folder. rename the file .fd into EAB00x64.fd
2)Create a USB bootable with DOS (I have used a software named RUFUS)
3) Copy the three file present in the dos folder into the usb key
4) Insert usb in your tablet. Put the power supply, lock the rotation and press together WIN BOTTON / VOL DOWN/ POWER ON for 5/10 sec and release.
5) the tablet remain in black screen for 10 mins then automatically restart and all is fixed.
