Hello all, i've been doing alot of reading.  I'm using a great french build of 3.2 with networking and market already enabled, however the market only shows limited apps because the system identifies itself as eee-pc.  When I try to install apps it will show device is incompatible.

I read up on editing the build.prop and found a number of fingerprints and settings to try, but i've tried many times and failed at remounting the /system as rw
I also read that this is not possible on android-x86

Can anyone offer me some advice, I'm not a unix person at all.  I only want to be able to run smurfs village(free app) on the android emulator :) in virtualbox

I tried to install the free .APK itself but can't get my SDcard to mount.
I opted to create the 2GB SDcard.img as part of the install of the live cd, but can't get it to mount.  Although my preference is to use the real android market since its hard to find the most current free APK files in the wild.

A lot of Android apps use ARM native code. Since x86 is not ARM, the
Market simply hides those apps to keep you from being disappointed
when they simply crash as soon as you load them.

Most games use ARM native code. This includes Angry Birds.
Many apps use ARM native code. This includes the Opera browsers.

Unless there is a free and open source ARM emulator to be included in
Android-x86, it's not going to work. And even then, the apps will run
very slow.

I dont think the market hides based on cpu, it seems to be based on the allowed devices by the developers so editing the build.prop to a popular device like a nexus 7 should reveal hidden apps. Will it run? that is another question.

You may find the "market helper" app very useful, as you can have your machine appear as an "officially blessed" android-x86 compatible box an an option.
(install market helper to see the choices, IIRC it was an ASUS convertible)
