Quick Question, what would you say is the minimum CPU and RAM I need to allocate either Android x86 4.4 Kitkat or 6.0 for it to function smoothly.

By smoothly I mean run a video, play a simple game or browse through the internet?

Thank you :)

Would 1 CPU and 2 Gb of Ram be enough for the Android x86 to function correctly. I'm curious to hear from the experienced folks based on their experience :)

I assume you mean in a virtual machine? I've never had ANY operating system run smoothly inside any VM manager I've tried: hyper-v, VirtualBox, VMware, Parallels, QEMU. Only running it installed natively (dual boot for example) has been smooth enough for me.

Of course, it could be good enough if you don't mind slight stuttering in animations etc. so 2GB RAM and 2 cores/threads let it run quite well! USB/hard drive install would still be the smoothest way though.

For example.. Just a while ago I tried different versions of Windows, Ubuntu, Android and some other Linux distros in VirtualBox, hyper-v and VMware. I gave them 2-4 threads of this i7-7700k, 16gb RAM (half of available), many gigabytes of space on a RAMdisk (10+gbps speed) and a Samsung 950 Pro M.2 SSD (2.5gbps speed) and a GTX 1080 so hardware wouldn't be limiting them...and they still weren't smooth enough for me, stuttering and lagging animations and so on in every OS. Then I installed both Windows and Ubuntu natively and everything is buttery smooth. Android won't boot on my PC due to NVIDIA drivers, unfortunately, but works incredibly well on the Windows tablet I use for reading etc so all is good.

Also, 1 cpu core and 2gb RAM should be good enough for most things!

Perfect thank you. Yea I was curious purely from an operational stand-point if the Ax86 would even function. Like would I be able to run an email app or a game app and it'll work or if 1 cpu and 2 gb ram is just not enough. I see people talking about 512 mb of RAM so I was wondering about the number of CPUs.

thank you :)

You're welcome! Yeah, 1GB is kind of the minimum nowadays to have a usable experience. 2gb should be good enough! At least on my end it runs clash of clans nicely, too, even though it isn't exactly full 60 fps. But things run well enough.

Good luck, I hope it works for you!
