to Android Timer
Hi,
I don't know whether you read the Market reviews, plus I realised mine
was probably better posted here, so apologies if it's redundant but my
thoughts on Timer & Countdown are:
- I was initially put off by the categories aspect, but then I'm
generally against that sort of thing (like colour labels on Mac OS X
or choosing icons for things in Windows '95 from shell32.dll). It'd
make a better first impression on people like me if it were possible
to wipe them out in one go and start over. Being able to set a photo
for a category rather than choose from a limited set of whatever you
thought to include was refreshing though.
- My fingers are thin (no "please mash the keypad with your palm now"
here) but the "close" icon is still too small a target area for
stopping a completed timer for my liking; seeing as pressing elsewhere
on the timer doesn't do anything, perhaps let me press anywhere on it
to dismiss it? (Or perhaps you're saving that action for pausing/
restarting/editing?)
- I don't imagine anyone can usefully use more than a few timers, and
even with a few timers running there's loads of precious screen real-
estate wasted below the home screen controls; perhaps fill it with a
history of my recently used timers there so I don't even have to go as
far as favourites. Something feels wrong about having the home screen
controls move down to make way for timers; perhaps they should be
glued to the top or bottom and timers should scroll off the bottom
instead?
- I'd like an option to force the backlight to stay on/screen to stay
unlocked while a timer is running. I miss this from StopWatch &
Timer.
- Perhaps provide a better means to order timers within a category
than prefixing numbers to their names; otherwise, unless you plan
ahead when creating a category as a list of times for the long-press
"Run timers as queue" function, it gets cumbersome when you decide to
change the list.
- In 1.1.1 I can still reproduce what I guess must be the flickering
timer bug you tried to address in 1.1.1 -- set a long-running timer
going, and then set a 1s timer on "Run repeated" a few (say, 10)
repeats. The long-running timer starts flickering (00:00:56 would
turn to 00:00:55, then back to 00:00:56 for a fraction of a second...)
All that unsolicited criticism and opinion aside, I was looking for a
multiple simultaneous timer replacement for StopWatch & Timer, so that
I can get reminded that the next of multi-stage procedure is due; T&C
is much better for this job. Thanks for making it free! Also, don't
pander to you users too much -- we'll end up ruining your app with
feature creep otherwise :)
