Has anyone tried to root Android 6.1 marshmallow on Raspberry Pi 3? has anyone tried kingo root?, or any other sort of root method?

Thanks Clancey Aggen

The image is already rooted, all you have to do is install SuperSu from the market.

Hi Hary,

Which distribution of android were you referring to? If it was either the one from Exton, or Geek Till It Hertz, it did not appear to be rooted. I installed SuperSU from Play Store, but it reports that the su binary was not installed in the system.

If you know of a distribution that is pre-rooted, please do let us know where to get it.

Thanks.

Do you need a specific build (like CyanogenMod)? Otherwise you could use RTAndroid builds: https://git.embedded.rwth-aachen.de/rtandroid/downloads/raspberry-pi/

They are pre-rooted with Superuser app included.

Here is a separate discussion thread for RTAndroid builds: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/android-rpi/lTYIgqZzazY

Hey, i tried RTAndroid but i had major issues with it.. so i had to go for a AndroidTV 6.0 build finally

Firstly I used a class-10 64gb micro-sd card, but it was still buggy and lagged while playing videos in the browser...
Moreover, i installed gapps with ADB, and when i installed youtube, it would never play any video
But most of all, there was no audio at all...in the browser or any other app.

Are these common issues? Are they addressed anywhere?
Thanks for your work and please help!!

Could you please name some of those major issues? Installation? Or problems at runtime?
Audio and video drivers are still in development. I hope the community will find a solution for this.
