We know we can use PRODUCT_PACKAGE_OVERLAYS to make OEM's resource
replace Android original resource files. But it is only for resource
file. Is there any similar way to overlay source code for OEM?
What's DEVICE_PACKAGE_OVERLAYS for? No comment on pdk about it.

The two overlays are really doing the same thing but at different priorities.  The product overlays take priority over device overlays.

There is no method for replacing code.

Hi

This is a quite old question, so I was wondering if it is still the case. Is there still no way to do source overlays?

Thanks

I believe so.  I've heard of people making it work hacking up the build system, but I don't think it's officially supported - that sort of code fragmentation would be a nightmare to support.

A better approach might be to maintain your own git branches with changes (and keep them up to date)

Greetings
