how to generate the .odex file in android

Hi all,
I am trying to generate the .odex files by enabling
"LOCAL_DEX_PREOPT=true" in my application Android.mk file, but it is
not generating it.
if any one know how to generate the .odex files for any application in
android, Please let me know.
