Q: Why 512MB for app storage only?
A: They store apps in the internal ROM and not on the SD card now, for
piracy reasons, but they will offer an upgrade soon for installing
apps on the SD card.
That is an official statement of "soon".

This is not "your" (lbcoder's) answer. It's a quote from a report
about the press conference. Ostensibly, this is a statement that
someone from Google made at the press conference. If you have a
beef with the logic of the piracy part of the quote, take it up
with Google.
The point of lbcoder's post is that Google is confirming that they plan
to support installing apps on the sdcard in the future. Here's the
part that I believe he wanted to note:
*** but they will offer an upgrade soon for installing
apps on the SD card.***
Your point that anti-piracy measures on an unlocked phone can be
defeated is well taken, but unrelated to the point that lbcoder
was trying to make.
