Network Time on android (NTP or NITZ ).

I wanted to understand how android supports network time? In the
settings menu on the phone (2.1 NexusOne) I see option to use network
time.

I understand CDMA cell towers provide network time and can be used.
For GSM, how is this done? Is it using NTP or NITZ? If so what
order?

GSM/UMTS use NITZ to notify network time. eclair has supported this information update on UI but it also depends on your RIL implement.
