Hello experts,

I'm having trouble with a recent Gingerbread AOSP build as I cannot
add a google account in the settings -> accounts & sync menu. It seems
like the option isn't there: I can add an exchange account, but not a
google account. When I click on Add account, it goes to the Add an
Exchange account screen, instead of letting me choose which kind of
account I want to add (google or exchange).

I am aware of the fact that, for AVD's created with target other
than Google API's we would not be able to create a google account
from accounts & sync. Had it been application development, we could
have managed this by creating an AVD from eclipse with Google API as
target. But when it comes to AOSP modification, what is the work
around that google provides?

This even pauses hindrance to open source modification in some
critical scenarios.

Consider the following problem which is the outcome of the afore-
mentioned issue.

If I make 20 continuous false attempts to unlock a screen using
incorrect unlock patterns, I need to be shown, the following screen --
http://www.4shared.com/photo/Mgb-XbJt/device_7.html . This screen
would only be shown when I have a google account created through
settings -> accounts & sync menu.

I would be obliged if someone from the android-platform community
could address this issue with the importance that it deserves.

Looking forward for solution,

Best Regards,
Anees

That is perfectly intentional: support for Google accounts is not part of the open-source tree, since it depends on Google-proprietary libraries.

The only official way to distribute these libraries as part of your build is to get an agreement from Google, not AOSP

I'm not sure I understand what you wrote. If you mean that this screen is displayed even if there are no Google libraries installed in the platform image, it is a platform bug and should probably filed at b.android.com.
