I followed the guide and run the repo command:

$ repo init -u git://gitorious.org/android-on-freerunner/freerunner_platform_manifest.git
-b froyo
$ repo sync

and get the error message:

fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly
error: Cannot fetch platform/bionic

Pls help.

Thanks and Best Regards.

Maybe it has something to do with the recent hack of some servers at kernel.org... they are maybe doing some maintenance :-)

Hello,

kernel.org is working now. Does somebody know something about current
outage of android.git.kernel.org?
Google Project Hosting now supports Git, is any reason to refer from
our repository to android.git.kernel.org
insted to refer to code.google.com repository: http://code.google.com/p/git-repo/
Any comment, please.

Seems like google have included some measures to increase the
integrity of the repository.

Were you able to get your repo sync to work again?

I able to correct main manifest file into my local copy, but could not
to do this
with manifests files to which main manifest file is referenced.
Please, help.

Hi Alexandre,

I'm also facing this connection refused error. Is it working for you?
Any suggestion what I should do?

Thanks,

Niels, you may need to do a repo init in order to pull the new
manifest version. At this point your manifest should not reference
android.git.kernel.org.

Actually, I just ran into a similar problem here and resolved it by
installing repo again, using the following command:

curl https://dl-ssl.google.com/dl/googlesource/git-repo/repo > ~/bin/repo

Hi Jim,

Installed repo again in my ~/bin dir and did
-b cupcake
repo sync

same result...

Is something wrong with the manifest file for cupcake, perhaps?

Thanks,

Niels.

I'm sure there is. I missed that you were trying to sync cupcake. You
will need to make the same manifest changes to point to the new
repository location. Take a look at this commit to see what's
involved: https://gitorious.org/android-on-freerunner/freerunner_platform_manifest/commit/0a937e6a6a6be49da617065f60248814b6e3b01a

Hi Jim,

Thanks!

After replacing all the git://android.git.kernel.org references into
https://android.googlesource.com the repo sync worked.

Is it possible to apply this change centrally in our repository so
other people don't suffer from the same issue?

Thanks again,

Niels.

Hi Jim,

Can you provide me with the original manifest.xml for the cupcake
branch? That will allow me to create a diff for you.

Thanks,

Niels.

This should do it:
https://gitorious.org/android-on-freerunner/freerunner_platform_manifest/blobs/raw/cupcake/default.xml

You should also be able to use git format-patch to generate the diff.

Thanks for the pointer.

I've created the diff and attached it to issue 182 of our issue

Hi Jim,

Thanks for applying the fix.

In the meantime I've figured out the ./repo/repo/repo file should also
be adjusted.

The REPO_URL should state

REPO_URL='https://android.googlesource.com/tools/repo.git'

Instead of the old git URL.

I will add a new repo file to the issue in the issue tracker, or you
can just change that single line with the URL, of course.

The same issue also applies to the installer branch which I managed to
initialise and compile last night. I'll create a separate issue for
the tracker.

Kind regards,

Niels.

I'm pretty sure this is set up by the "repo init" command. Please try
setting up a new cupcake repository using repo init and I think you'll
see it has the right value. Send me the updated manifest for the
installer branch and that should fix it there as well.

I just got around to trying this. It appears that when Google brought
the AOSP repos back online they didn't restore the cupcake branch. See
http://goo.gl/cgNqz

I'll try to find another source for it.

I've tried to set up a new cupcake repo from scratch on my local
system.

The entire process worked fine and all the source was replicated
locally. After my first repo sync (you know, the long one...) the
process claimed a new version of repo was available, downloaded it and
executed the repo sync again.

The resulting error is shown at the bottom of this mail.

Now, I'm not getting this error on my already existing local cupcake
repo. Not even when doing a repo init first and afterwards repo
syncing again. I believe it is related with the change I made to the
REPO_URL located in the file ./repo/repo/repo.

In my original repo, I've changed the URL into:

REPO_URL='https://android.googlesource.com/tools/repo.git'

while in the repository I set up last night the URL is:

REPO_URL='https://code.google.com/p/git-repo/'

Kind regards,

Niels.

I've attached a manifest which pulls the missing cupcake branch from a
different repository. (Copy it into .repo/manifests/)

When I try to build with this manifest, I get a compile error in
frameworks/base/tools/aidl/AST.cpp. I haven't had a chance to
troubleshoot further. Niels, if you want to give this a try, please
report what you find.

Hi Jim,

Downloaded and moved the file to the ./repo/manifests/ of the troubled
local Cupcake repo
nhv@NBX001:~/aof_test$ repo sync
Fetching projects: 4% (5/118) android.git.kernel.org[0:
149.20.4.77]: errno=Connection refused
fatal: unable to connect a socket (Connection refused)

It is a different error I got before, so it did change.

Looking at the xml you sent, I can see it's full with the git kernel
references instead of the https reference. Could that be the issue?

Forget that. Was playing around with the wrong file.

Took the correct file (which you provided) and sync is now ongoing.

Will revert back with an update.

Hi Jim,

I've managed to do a full repo sync and compilation without any
errors.

Afterwards I've packaged the installation with the packageinstaller
script from the installer branch and all finished nicely without
problems.

For me this fixes the repo sync problem for the cupcake branch.

Thanks,

Niels

Thanks for testing it! I've checked in that manifest and I'll try to
troubleshoot my build environment. Ran, can you give it a try?

Hello
Thank Jim. I have done full repo sync, compilation and testing from
scratch.

Cool! Now I have to figure out why it won't compile for me. :-(
