Also be nice to have it work with a network password enabled for growl on
OSX.

I agree that if the application is going to use network notifications, it
really needs to some form of authentication.

Out of interest, why can the notifier not register as a local app with
Growl?

Using Growl for Windows here.

Why would someone on Mac want to use AND instead of MDN? For me, MDN "just
works", while AND did not work, is not able to setup "start up login" (it
instructs me to use accounts prefpane instead).

As version might tell, is AND superseding MDN?

Can you tell me what process names to look for to determine if it's

If you download the older MacDroidNotifier you can actually get it working
by running Growl Version Detective, available at
http://growl.info/downloads and replacing the Growl 1.2 framework in there
with the Growl 1.3.1 framework. MacDroidNotifier will complain the first
time that it receives a notification that Growl isn't running, but will
display the notification anyway, after which the error dialog won't be
shown again (as noted in the error dialog itself).

The newer Android Notifier uses GNTP to communicate with Growl, with is
the "proper" way to do it going forward, since Growl 1.3 will need to run
in Apple's new sandbox system. As I understand it from reading other
threads on GNTP in Growl 1.3.x, there is presently an issue with
non-authenticated GNTP communications (i.e. those that don't include a
password). Growl 1.4 is supposed to fix this, but Android Notifier could
probably also do so by simply allowing the user to specify a password for
the GNTP connection between Growl 1.3.x and Android Notifier.

Huge thanks to je...@hollington.ca -- Growl Version Detective "upgrade FW"
to 2.0 works a treat (and doesn't complain on MDN launch). I couldn't get
either the 32- or 64-bit versions of AND to run: 32-bit crashed on
bluetooth, and 64-bit suggested either the OS or Java isn't 64-bit too
(they both are).

Hello, so I just downloaded MacDroidNotifier.app to see what method it
uses to talk to Growl, and it is using an out of date framework, it
made assumptions about the nature of Growl that are no longer true.
You can make it compatible by replacing the framework using
GrowlVersionDetective that you can download here:
http://growl.info/downloads#generaldownloads and on the second tab it
will load a list of all applications which contain the Growl.framework
inside them (this can take awhile). Find MacDroidNotifier in the
list, and hit the Upgrade FW button. MacDroidNotifier should upgrade
just fine, but if you have issues we provide a revert button (although
in this case, it would be reversion to a completely non working
state).

I got it all installed, Remote Notifier on my Android, set to auto-enable
my wifi home network if it disconnects, and to bypass the screen locker to
send the notification.

http://imgur.com/KfDP2JB

http://imgur.com/pDAez9i

And I got both AND and Growl properly set on my PC, STILL the system fails
to notify me when the phone screen is locked, although all wifi settings on
my Android are set to keep always connected and Remote Notifier is set to
auto-enable it in case it disconnects. I don't know whether Android
Notifier is failing to send the msg or AND is failing to receive it. It
works like 10 minutes tops, after the screen is locked, if the phone is
idle longer than that it stops working.

I thought that installing Growl would somehow fix it but it didn't.

Any ideas??? Tnks in advance!
