After all the input we have received, I propose we begin the official
voting on Monday, August 10th. This will allow us a full week to
promote the voting across all the network sites and share the links
and embed polls with all the developers.

What do you guys think about August 10th?

Sounds good.  Gives devs time to start rounding up support.  Can we go forward with site launch and at least list categories and dates?

Yes, I plan to try and work on it tonight and get the central site up.  Do you want to help with the copy?

So when should we start listing the applications that made the initial
cut? I was thinking about doing an 'Android Network Awards' update
post sometime this week...

I agree with voting starting August 10.

I think the voting on 8/10 is good to, give us time to reach out to nominated devs. Then 8/10 to 8/17 is the actual public vote.

I think I will add this to homepage of this Group so every member is clear.

Ok. Sounds good. If I may ask... how exactly are we reaching out to
these devs and who is doing it? Should we send out a mass E-mail to
the nominees?

That's your call on the mass email to nominees. But some site owners converse or interact act with some of the nomineed devs, so I believe they'll pass the word that way. Alternatively, it's best if devs/public found out about it from our various Android news sites and when the central site goes up.

Since the Android Guys article (http://androidguys.com/?p=6205) I've be trugging through as many of the apps as I can asking them to list on AndAppStore so users of devices without Google Market can vote.

I've got an email list of most of the developers that I'd be happy to send over to someone to use, but there are some I couldn't find an email contact for (e.g. the PayPal app and the Bank of America app).

That's great to reach out to the developers if someone has the time or desire.  It's also possible that many of these guys will hear about their nominations from fans and bloggers, especially if they monitor it closely enough.  Twitter and other networking services will help.

A week is plenty of time to get word back to them in one form or another and help rally their troops to vote.

All my emails have gone out, and I had a couple of emails directly and some new listings so I think the word is getting around.

The only thing left open that I can see is the issue of Locale. My personal opinion is that if it really was that innovative and worthwhile it would have come up already, so I think the lists should stand as they are.

I think the list is good as it sits.  Maybe we can hook up a few FAQ's on the main site.

How were the nominations decided?
But where's "X" application?
Can I still vote for "X"?

Cover our butt.

This conflict should be a non-issue next time around if we start allowing open nominations from the fans ahead of time.  We put that burden back on them somewhat.

Really, there are over 60 people in this group and not one of us brought it up.

I agree. Somewhere, a line should be drawn or the nominations would go on forever.
These are categories and applications chosen by key people in the industry and should suffice for this round of the awards.
The only other option is to have an “Other” field in the voting area for each category and then monitor these submissions as they are voted for.  This would still be a lot of work for the awards group as we would have to compile the list of “Other” nominations and analyze the names submitted hoping that they have used the correct full name of the application.  If different people vote for “Other” applications and they use slightly different application names, then we have reconcile them.

Anyway, just a thought. This would be an option to pacify the users who say "Where is application X"

I don't know what CMS/backend you will be using for the ANA website,
but if it's WordPress I'd be happy to share my barcode shortcode
function which links to Cyrket.com (and can easily rewrite for
andappstore.com). It's a pretty simple plugin, but it would save you
the time writing it yourself :) Our readers really appreciate the QR
codes since all they have to do is start Barcode Scanner, point their
device to the screen and the right app in the Android Market comes up
on their device.

Ok, so are we announcing yet or are we waiting for the site to go up?
I was thinking of making a post tomorrow announcing the final list of
nominees and categories and telling readers that voting would begin
Monday..
