I'm considering putting up a prize or two for the developers of the two applications which receive the most votes and are listed on my site AndAppStore.com.

Is this something that people see as OK, or is this going against the spirit of the awards?

As long as those prizes didn't raise the stakes to the point where
cheating becomes an issue in the awards, I don't see why not...

I think that the voting will be set up to one vote per IP if I am not mistaken.  Down the road, I'd really like to see some sponsors from all over offer up prizes and incentives.  What they are, how big, etc... that's up for debate.

The feedback I am getting right now is that the devs are really digging the idea.  Could turn the interest level up quite a bit.

I was thinking of offering a couple of commonsware.org  subscriptions so that it's something useful to the developers that isn't so expensive it's going to encourage fraud.

Would this be OK?

Sounds like a good plan. Maybe someday this award can culminate in a
physical awards ceremony that takes place yearly and includes talks,
tutorials, showcases of new Android products, lots of corporate
sponsors and all that good stuff. It would be like CES, but just for
Android products...

I've been chatting over the CommonsWare subscriptions with Mark Murphy and he's offered 25 3 month subscriptions (i.e. one for the winner in each category) if we want them.

What do people think?

I think that’s appropriate and for formality it should also be coordinated
through Scott & Taylor / Clark Wimberly to make part of the "official" ANA
awarding system - IMHO.

I think it's a generous offer and some of the devs would find them helpful.  I have no objection with the idea.

the subscriptions are equitable - all winners get access.  Good stuff!  Roll with it in my opinion.

OK, just so we're all on the same page before I announce anything;

Each of the 25 3 months subscriptions will go to winning developer or group in each category.

AndAppStore.com will offer two 6 month subscriptions for the two apps that get the most votes and are listed on AndAppStore.com

Once I get an OK from Taylor I'll put something up on AndAppStore.com.
