Its great that all of these Android sites are coming together for one
authoritative event. Do you think it would be possible that we all
remain in contact after the Awards? I think the only thing better
than a blog on Android is a consortium of blogs on Android!

Well I'm hoping that we stay together officially. Like each site that
participates can sport an "Android Network Member" stamp or
something. And that as we continue forth, that stamp will become
synonymous with credible, useful information about Android...

It sounds cool :)

I agree.  Its nice to see the community come together like this.  I'm hoping that ANA can grow into other things over time.  Right now we're focusing on best apps, but as android grows we could cover best phones, host competitions, and more.

I think this is most likely just the tip of the iceberg.  I am not aware of anything else being done like this for any (mobile) platform.  We can use this tool and group to share all kinds of things.  Contests and cross promotions can really benefit if we all help chip in.

I think it is a great idea in the future.  Lets concentrate on getting the first round of awards finished first. :)  I think we could do some pretty cool stuff later this year.

Agreed, I set up my androidbloke.co.uk because I am really passionate
about phones and like to share my enthusiasm for android with others.
Its really great to open up the network and share ideas, information
and other things.

Lets go with the awards and then move on. Maybe someone can set up a
nice Android Network Founders Club badge for the site.

Yes, that is interesting idea. Maybe we could create an alliance where
different sites would have rights to use some of the contents of other
sites. For instance: we could create uniform phone tabels lists and
all could put it on their site. That way we would have more content
with less work.

I like the Seto's content sharign idea. And some bloggers of the
network are developers. (including me) We can introduce the apps for
them if it is good and they contribute network enough.

Before we lose the momentum on bringing the network together, we
should arrange to have a mechanism to facilitate and build on
relationships across the network of sites.

I am a business development manager by training so am happy to put
myself forward to help develop and encourage the network unless
anyone is vocally opposed to it!

I'm cool with helping to use the "network" to help further projects, contests, etc.  We could also help share scoops and newsworthy stuff.  As long as it doesn't become a dumping ground for all of our websites, then I tend to think some of us would be okay with it.  Maybe some guidelines or something before we open it wide?

Keeping in touch though a network of sites is an awesome idea.
Anyway I can help with this, just let me know.
Some sort of central news thread would be a great idea.

The biggest problem with bringing things together is language problem.
Google translate does not do a good job when translating in my
slovenian language, so for some things there is no way to just copy
some things. Everything has to be made manually. Maybe a good
programmer could create a program which would automatically translate
phone tables but for other things I dont see a chance. But if we would
have permission to directly copy whole review with pictures and
everything (and in it would be pretty much automated), translate the
text and put the name and link of the original page below, that would
be also great. I am now trying to connect with the importers so I
would be able to get some phones to the test and I would have no
problem if foreign sites would translate my review and put the author
name below. Only the authors of pages in same language could not be
happy with that if someone would just copy their review.
Android UK: I support your idea but I dont know how far do you want to
go with this mechanism? We should not go so far that the pages are
almost the same.

I think this union is not directly connected with ANA so I have
created a new group to discuss about our idea. All interested: please
send me an e-mail (my address is se...@slo-android.si) with URL-s of
your Android sites and I will than send you an invite.

It's a great idea.
Not only the "award", but also an Android Netwrok.

I think this is a good idea.

We could set up another domain where only people of this group can enter.

We can use that website or a private google group for sync purposes (Like: organizing contests, share ideas, and every thing that could spawn the entire android network )

We would love to help out wherever possible. In fact: we're already
doing this for our sister website iPhoneclub.nl, where we have an
alliance/network with other "big" iPhone blogs in Europe and we
actively link to eachother for news, but also just in the sidebar. You
might want to check it out on http://www.iphoneclub.nl, right bottom
sidebar ('Around The World'). It's easily done and really is a good
ranking tool for Google too (PageRank enhancement). We would love to
cooperate with other Android websites/blogs to setup something similar
(both in linking to each other and sharing quality content)

So guys we are a go for organising the group?

I will work on creating a charter and collecting everyone's email.

What sort of hierarchy, if any, will this group have? It has become
apparent that a coordinated effort between us Android sites requires
some sort of of leadership...

Btw: E-mail is triplemw...@gmail.com

That is something we should discuss about. I have no problem if
someone works more for the group, he has more influence on decisions.
If we would need a leader, we could chose it democraticaly on the
basis of plans and ideas. Everyone has his own vision about this and
the one who has the most pleasurable vision for all. :)

Btw. ; we are only 3 for now we are still waiting for participants.

Maybe instead of one we should have a 'board or directors' of sites.
One vision is not as good as the meeting of several visions, but too
many visions competing at once gets a little testy. How about 3-ish
sites we vote on to have the final say (and responsibility) for the
group? Then other sites could be the 'officers' of the group that
specialize in getting things done in a certain area...

Instead of sites it should be people. If there are two good directors from one site why not have both of them....

Good point. Maybe I should clarify. When I say 'sites' I mean an
involved representative (or group of representatives) from that
website.

Sounds like a new poll we would all need to vote on for the ANA board ;)

For the Board I would nominate for example:

Scott Webster - AndroidGuys
Taylor Wimberly - AndroidAndMe
Al Sutton - And App Store
Antonio Wells - AndroidTapp

I can round out this board if the network supports it as well.

Hmm... another question of timing....
Should we organize now, or wait until the awards are over with?

As far as nominations:

Taylor Wimberly - AndroidAndMe
Scott Webster - AndroidGuys
Michael Martin - GoogleAndBlog
Nicholas G. - HTC Source

Also I'd like to have some position, either in the capacity of board
or an officer, myself.

I think we should wait till after the awards for this.

The idea of setting up a community committee is great and I would like to participate.  Three people is nice, but I think a slightly larger group would be better.  Maybe 5-7?

I agree as well.  I'm all for helping out... I also like the idea of officers who handle specific tasks too.

I think once we announce winners, we'll be able to sit back and address the whole concept differently.

Gents and ladies, I would welcome you all to join the private group
where we can discuss the association- I believe that Seto has set one
up.

For myself, I don't see a benefit in creating a central focal point
for news, as the last thing we want is for all our sites to be
duplicates for each other.

I personally would like to see the association offer the following:
1. A place that we can receive offers of competitions, sponsorship and
banners and each member individually would be able to opt in to.
2. A place where we can circulate promotional items about a global
events for Andoid such as conferences ( like the one in Berlin!)
3. A place we can discuss ask information and work on ideas together.

Ideally it would be structured as any group is with an executive
commitee made up of 2 or 3 individuals. I would advise we have a
respresentative committee made up of a broad range of sites and not
just representatives of the 2 or 3 largest sites. I would also think
that that anything that comes out of the committee should be optional
for each member blog and they should be able to decide for themselves
if they want to participate.

Most of us are part time bloggers, and the only reason we do this is
to have fun. I am firmly in that camp and enjoy writing and talking
about android- I am looking to keep enjoying this and want to keep
things as relaxed and fun as possible.

Night all!

I think a central group where we can help tout events, giveaways, meetups, and things along those lines is a good idea.  Last thing we all need is to do copy/paste jobs for people.  We've all got our own branding and ideas that make us unique.
