Hi all, I finally managed to cleanly remove the versioning information
from all the libs needed to port qgis to android. it is a mix of
configure, cmake and qmake based libs.
I hope this write-up will help somebody:

Quick question:  How did you manage to deal with proj.4's external data files (e.g. its epsg file and the various datum conversion grids)?  In my own GIS-related hacks I had to play some ugly games to get them to install and be located.  Actually building the binary "NAD" grids was a fun trick, too.  I'm keen to know how you solved that problem.
