Hello,

I just read the announcement that Android 15 QPR1 Beta will offer the "Boot with 16KB page size" developer option. That is great, thank you for that. However, it is frustrating to see only Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro there. Not even Pixel 6, which has a custom Android 13 16K system image being mentioned in the official documentation, is in the list of supported devices. Is there any chance of seeing more Pixel devices offering the "Boot with 16KB page size" developer option in the near future? Thank you in advance.

Obrigado.

Hi. There is the emulator option, which is what I would recommend at this time.

There is a POC 16 KB Pixel 6/6 Pro build available, though it's aimed at platform developers, and several OS components will be failing and some hardware does not work in this mode. I do not recommend it compared to the emulator unless you are familiar with Android platform development:
https://source.android.com/docs/core/architecture/16kb-page-size/flash-pixel6-with-16kb-kernel

For a developer option quality build, you should not expect it on devices older than Pixel 8. Though I can't share schedules for other devices at this time, thank you for your interest in 16 KB!

Hello Steven,

Thank you for the feedback. Please not even Pixel 7a could be included in the list? That device is just 5 months older than Pixel 8 :(

Obrigado.

Is there a guide to setting up the emulator on Linux from the command line? I couldn't get the emulator to work when I was starting on Android work, five years ago, and have not tried since. I am partially sighted and find IDEs extremely confusing, so I don't try to use them anymore. Any method that relies on Android Studio is going to be harder for me than you can readily believe.

Thanks,

John

https://developer.android.com/tools/avdmanager creates them, and then they can be launched with <SDK>/tools/emulator (see --help, those docs don't appear to be online). I've gone that route before and found it to be a bit of a pain in the ass to work out which arguments I needed to launch the emulator in the mode I wanted, but once you've got those figured out it works fine until something changes.
