Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren,
Please excuse my lack of German, Canadians are not so
international as Europeans!
I will be visiting Munich for a holiday July 3 to July 10, and if
anyone is interested, will be pleased to meet with members to discuss
my company's upcoming suite of process control apps for Android.
We manufacture specialized power supplies for a particular industry.
They are capable of communicating over RS-485, and we typically ship
the power supplies with a remote monitoring and control system (RMCS).
This system is essentially an industrial pc that resides on the 485
network and on an Ethernet network. It offers a browser interface to
users, permitting them to view status, history, and changes settings
on the power supplies.
The Android apps are intended to:
1. help us with field maintenance (connect to the RMCS over wifi and
view its browser interface; connect to the 485 over Bluetooth and
transmit commands directly),
2. improve quality assurance in the workshop,
3. enable remote maintenance (by tunneling from our office into the
Android over 3G, then from there into the RMCS or 485),
4. and be an alternate way to access the process controller (we will
port our browser interface to Android)
There are some interesting puzzles to figure out, as well as some
standard app programming. We will be using small tablets (probably the
Samsung Galaxy 7.7Plus), though the tunneling app must run on any
phone.
Please let me know here if you would like to join me for a beer and a
chat. I am happy to meet anyone for discussion and brainstorming, as
well as to discuss possible recruitment (we are outsourcing all our
Android work).
Mit freundlichen Grüßen,
Aleksander Kujbida
