Hi Guys,

We'll be having our monthly Android meetup on the 16th of May & MadLab

The keynote will be presented by @suttonpeter, a short talk titled "App design: Know your Content Provider from your Account Authenticator" - he'll cover the basics for a robust and secure Android app - Pete is a hugely talented and enthusiastic Android Developer!

As always, we'll cover the latest happenings in the Android world, and may even have an app demo :)

Please come along and invite your friends, feel free to forward this email :)

Inspired a bit by the live streaming of the GTUG sessions in San Fransisco I'd like to have a go at live streaming the next Android meetup.

Obviously I'd need to get permission from you Zain and Pete but I'd like to see what sort of a reception it would get. If I use Ustream it will save the stream so it can be viewed after the event as well.

Just an idea, if you don't want it then that's fine :-)

Yehhh deffo!

I'm all for live streaming, from an Android phone? - even better!

Pete, thoughts?

I was thinking about doing it from my laptop so I could use an external microphone. No point if the quality is too bad to hear.

I'll have a play and see what I can get setup, assuming pete doesn't mind.

Yes that does sound better.

The talk from last month was recorded on a Desire Z - sound quality could have been much much better!

I'll email people to see if there's anyone with a camcorder? :)

It needs to be able to act as a webcam. I have some cheap usb ones which should be good enough for the perpose.

Sounds good - lets go for that then :)

Cheers Bob. Just looked at that now. That seems like a perfect solution. I'll try it out tonight!

Great, let me know how that goes :)

It works over Wifi, but its a bit laggy. Over USB I get errors all the time. Can't figure it out. Might poke at the code when I get chance, see if it's anything I can fix.

I might end up just using a cheap USB webcam. Should be good enough anyway, it's the sound that's more important really.

Looks like we're on. Pete's up for it.

I've tried using my android phone over wifi as a webcam and it looks but there's a lag of about a second. I'd ideally like to do it with an external mic to try and get better sound. I brought a cheap one but obviously the quality isn't ideal. I think there might be one I could borrow at madlab though, maybe. For video I'll just use a USB webcam.

There's a group in Canada (I think) which does a similar meetup and livestreams them all and gets quite a few viewers. Should be an interesting experiment.

Shall we start advertising it round a bit on Twitter and so forth?

By the way...the code for Pete's presentation is on github in case anyone missed it. Looks like it's going to be interesting:
