I downloaded the fastboot binary and when I try to execute it I get
the error message::

zsh: exec format error: ./fastboot

I verified the checksum and the extracted binary matches the hash.
Anyone know what to do? Looks like the file is in ELF format (or at
least I spotted the term "ELF" when looking at the file under vim) and
I didn't think OS X ran ELF binaries.

We're looking into that. Turns out that someone mistakenly believed
that the same fastboot would run on linux and MacOS (it was the same
filename). We're trying to get the page updated asap with the proper
binary.

In the meantime, fastboot can be built from the android source tree.
If anyone has a binary out there, that'd be great.

Oops. =)

Downloading the mainline right now; obviously going to take a while
(or should I just use the one from the cupcake branch?). Hopefully a
1.1 radio image on top of a 1.0 system image won't cause my phone to
explode.

If I manage to get one built and no one beats me to it I will try to
get it up online.

After fixing a bug in a Java file, I managed to get far enough along
until the next build error to get fastboot built on OS X 10.5.6 on
Intel. The file can be found at http://www.cs.ubc.ca/~drifty/fastboot.mac

Thanks for that. That was *ahem* an embarrassing oversight on our
side. Sorry for the annoyance. I hope that the rest of the process
works fine for you (luckily it's easier on MacOS than on other OSes).

I was able to use the fastboot from http://koushikdutta.blurryfox.com/G1/fastboot-osx-10_5.zip
to successfully load the update.

No latitude is pretty disappointing though.

Anyway, good luck.

Just wanted to echo the successful flash using the koushikdutta
fastboot binary.
