Job Responsibilities

•                    Works closely with Application DBA’s, developers, project teams and Systems area to build and support database instances (databases, schemas, tables, procedures and permissions) under the policies and procedures defined by RGA.

•                    Implements database tools and processes for task automation, monitoring and reporting to ensure high level of system availability and performance.

•                    Oversees backup, replication and failover functions. Provides restore and recovery support.

•                    Analyzes, consolidates and tunes database for optimal efficiency.

•                    Assists team in promotion of application code and requests into databases.

•                    Assists in query language construction, remediation and tuning.

•                    Proactively plans, evaluates, and deploys upgrades and patches.

•                    Manages product licensing.

•                    Provides 24/7 support as needed.

•                    Maintains and applies current knowledge of industry best practices, trends and applications.

•                    Evaluates and recommends new database technologies.

•                    Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

•                    Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirement

•                    5+ years’ experience administering SQL Server database instances in a large production environment.

•                    Experience with relational database technologies such as SQL Server, SSAS, SSRS, and SSIS..

•                    Hands-on system design and development as needed.

•                    Intermediate database administration skills including analysis, design, implementation, performance tuning, and user/account creation and management.

•                    Intermediate database engineering skills including setup, upgrades, replication, backup and recovery.

•                    Assists users in proper practice of relational techniques and design, query language construction, remediation and tuning. 

•                    Competent planning and project management skills. Demonstrated ability to translate business/operational needs and problems into systems’ design and technical solutions

•                    Complex analytical and problem-solving skills.

•                    Excellent oral and written communication skills

•                    Ability to work well within a team environment.

•                    Passion for continuous process improvement

•                    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience   

Tools

•                    Experience with relational database technologies such as SQL Server, SSAS, SSRS, and SSIS..

•                    Experience managing and supporting multiple DBMS platforms in a Windows/Cloud hybrid environment

•                    Experience managing and supporting open source systems (PostGreSQL, mongoDB, MySQL, Hadoop, etc.)

•                    Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server licensing structure.

•                    Experience with monitoring tools such as SQL Sentry, SolarWinds and SCOM.

Preferred Skills

•                    Completion of SQL Server Certifications

•                    Master’s degree

•                    LOMA certification

•                    6+ years’ experience in database administration

•                    Experience managing and supporting multiple DBMS platforms in a Windows/Cloud hybrid environment

•                    Experience managing and supporting open source systems (PostGreSQL, mongoDB, MySQL, Hadoop, etc.)

•                    Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server licensing structure.

•                    Experience with monitoring tools such as SQL Sentry, SolarWinds and SCOM.

•                    Insurance industry knowledge

•                    Reinsurance industry knowledge
