Android 5.0 Jelly Bean release expected in Q2 2012

Android is a series of treats in the form of Gingerbread, Ice Cream Sandwich and now there is lined up the delicious Jelly Bean. Jelly Bean is Android 5.0 and is slated to come out in the second quarter of 2012.

Though Ice Cream Sandwich had been launched long time back, it is yet to be experienced in smartphones or tablets, except Nexus S phone and Transformer Prime.

Though the OS that runs on both tablets and smartphones is hailed as amazing software, but its upgradation on devices has been marred by glitches. The Nexus S smartphone and the Transformer Prime tablet both have received the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade. Both have since then been dogged by uncontrollable crashes or sudden freezing.

Now both a tablet and a smartphone have been issued upgrades, only to have users complain that their device started freezing or crashing uncontrollably. This has made device manufacturers rather uncertain about the upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich. Overall, despite the wonderful reviews about Ice Cream Sandwich, it is not a very anticipated upgrade for manufcturers. To top it all, now the next Android OS is slated to be released, dampening the launch of Ice Cream Sandwich on devices even more.

A few days back Motorola came out with the schedule of Ice Cream Sandwich updates on most of its devices. Most of the upgrades are reported to be slated to reach the Motorola tablets and smartphones only in the second half of 2012. If it coincides with the release of Jelly Bean, then the timing is certainly very wrong for Android upgrades and launches.

Tech website Digitimes has recently reported that Android 5.0 or Jelly Bean would debut in the second quarter of 2012. If this news is true, then the tech market would witness the unusual case of two new versions of Android being out without being updated on tablets and smartphones. Google is quick in upgrading the Android OS versions, but not quite in getting rid of the glitches that dog Ice Cream Sandwich when it is used in devices. Then there is the extremely wrong timing of Jelly Bean launch just when most of the devices would be receiving their Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades.

Putting the wrong timing and Ice Cream Sandwich glitches aside, Jelly Bean is an even more awesome OS than its predecessor. Ice Cream Sandwich became famous because it was the first OS to work both on tablets and smartphones alike. Jelly Bean is one step ahead, if rumours are to be believed.

Android 5.0 Jelly Bean is said to operate on tablets, smartphones, notebooks and also netbook computers. Now this sounds like an OS that has the potential just to flood the market with its immense utility, availability and compatibility.

Another remarkable feature of Jelly Bean is said to be the Android Beam, which is based on NFC (Near Field Communication). This feature lets two Android smartphones to securely exchange Web pages, contacts, media or even applications.

Jelly Bean can very well translate into another big opportunity for Google to make a big enough splash in the tech market to topple Apple and Microsoft supremacy this year.
