Hey Guys!

i've a great project for the Android Developer Challenge. It's round
about connecting things from real World to digital Information and/or
request informations about things you just see at whereever you are.

OpWoCo(c) connects things from real world to digital information. You
can bookmark everything you can see/touch. You get online-prices for
products direct in the supermarket using your mobile phone. Or take a
look at what other people thinks about a product/place/advertisement
you just see at wherever you are. Take a Photo of the Barcode / OpWoCo
Code and your phone will obtain all information you just want to know.
You also can bookmark it or send to a friend.

Good idea, I'm not sure the world is "ready" for a tool like that one,
but it is very likely that before or later will be a common service...
The OpWoCo(c) is something real at this very moment? In other words
the API exist and they work fine or it's just a website?

let us know!

Hi Francesco,

thank you very much for you reply. You dindn't have to write the (c) behind opwoco  :)
The API isn't complete actually, so we are looking for more developers who will contribute to the project.
We do not want to make money with opwoco, we just want to realise the idea. We know it will be hard to build up a project like opwoco but we are sure that it will be great.

If the world is ready yet is a good question. I think we can prevent people from stay behind the pc the whole day wit opwoco. They can talk(shoutbox), inform, share, bookmark things they just see in their "real" live. And thats much more interesting than browsing in a flat-structured-www. Can you imagine?

"We do not want to make money with opwoco"

!

my two-cents

you will never realise the idea unless you gear it up to make money in order to attract the best people - its a fact of life - people are motivated by money as much as the fulfillment from realising the idea.

Well, I don't know if without money involved there is no chance for
the opwoco idea, but for sure it will be harder!
and something that is related to the bar code and doesn't want to make
money is almost a paradox...

But still, I do belive this is a good idea that should be implemented!

opwoco wants to set up an infrastructure, including client, for a couple services which provide information associated to products, places, or things you can see/touch.

The basic platform and alliance has the target to realise a vision and to set up an alliance of Service-providers.

e.G. The Price watch for a product can lead to a sale - of course we are talking about making money in this case. There are a lot of third-party company who would like to pay opwoco. We will need them to maintenance the infrastructure and at a certain point we will also need them to pay developers. Take a look at mozilla, or at Linux the global way...

jklondon - Money isn't one of the essential questions at this moment - The Community can build up a lot without money - Spending time to the project. and you know.. "time is money"

Goal #1: Bring up the System.
Goal #2: Sponsor the community

How would you catalog (or gather information from) the barcodes from
everything in the world?

You "scan"  the barcode using the camera of you mobile phone. There will also come mobile phones with rfid readers. Another option will be to type the code.

Now we have to divide:

------------------------
product codes:
------------------------
There are still open Databases with detailed product information and there are online-shops which provide the barcode of their products. Additional there is a database where you van obtain to which producer a barcode belongs (Country of origin etc...)

That are the information we can gather up to now. The object is that there was no reason up to now to build up such a detailed database. It will have to be done. The manufactures will be glad to put their product details in a global database because it's a kind of promotion to give opwoco information for their product.

what you can do directly is to "shout" a comment in a public shoutbox according to the barcode/productcode/opwoco code

------------------------
POI codes ( or everything where you might want to talk about..)
------------------------
This is build up by the community. You can ask for an own free opwoco Code and put them on the sign of a POI. Of course then it is your turn to bind a wikipedia article, GPS data or something else to it.

You could also put one at a Bus-Station and everyone who is there can shout about it or bookmark it or
shout "live" from home to someone who is just there if you have it bookmarked...

tag the world just like you want with your own comments.
Share your feeling at a certain POI.
