Neat idea. I was wondering what you were going to process in the images to
confirm hit/miss etc? How are you going to be able to tell the difference
between just any bystander verses actual target?

Hi Zach,

Nice webpage!

For the Alpha Version, once a picture is taken the user will get to
choose to send it to the server or not. If the image is sent it is a
hit with the crosshair over a person.

Each player has a profile on wifiarmy.com where the pictures taken by
the cellphone will be compared/confirmed/disputed.

For the live Beta Version,
All weapons are realised, account upgrades, and the e-commerce portion
of the site. We are starting talks with a company that has already
developed human recognition technology and eventually a hit will be in
real time and confirmed automatically.

Full Version
Armys, voice over blutooth/wifi

We will be updating www.wifiarmy.com nearly everyday with blogs and
videos after the holidays.

It is very exciting stuff, you can now preregister for a beta- only
500 users per city.

Hi w2pi,

I really like your application, but I have the following questions:
* How do you prevent that people just take a picture of a picture of
someone? Or take a picture of someone who looks similar / wears
something similar and claim a "hit"?
* Would it not be dangerous, if people start running away from each
other in a city? In the moment of fleeing, they may cross roads
without taking enough care, endanger other people, therefore bringing
themselves and others (participants and non participants) potentially
into danger.

Thank you we can't wait to release it.

We are currently building a verification system on www.wifiarmy.com
once a user takes a picture it is uploaded to our server where it is
processed to confirm a kill or not. Our ulitmate goal it to make it
automated, for right now it will be a community based verification
system. If we get the prize money from Google, majority will go to
perfect this system, hardware and marketing.

When signing up for a WiFi Army account the user must upload a picture
of him/herself and submit a link to a facebook/blog/website to verify
that that is who they are. We will have an internal department that
handles any issues of cheating, bugs, and foul play banning users for
life.

We also understand that there are privacy issues, we are going to
implemant a filter for preditors. Since the application will run on
our servers, we have complete control of who can play and who cannot.

With any physical game there are dangers, before the game loads there
is a disclaimer much like any gps navigation system. Once two users
are in range both parties are notified and they will get to choose to
fight or not. Users will choose to fight at thier own disgression. We
have tested a basic version of the game in downtown Chicago with 10
players.

We have found the best way to play is as follows,

Both players recieve notification that an enemy is nearby.
Players will get to choose to fight or not
If both players choose to fight then their profile from wifi army.com
populates so they know who to look for
Then players can look for the other person via google maps
Then they hunt one another.

During the test trails we have recieve great results. There is hardly
any running while looking at the cell screen. Once the players get in
the weapons range then the camera activates and then are allowed to
take pictures.

Taking a picture is not easy, there are many things going on in the
real world, the other player is avoiding and also taking a picture of
you. There is definetly skills invloved.

Once we go live, there will be several weapons to choose from with
longer ranges, zoom capabilites, body armor, and radar jammers. These
features make the game ever more so intense.

We will release a video on YouTube of actual gameplay in the near
future. www.wifiarmy.com for more information.
