Hi JBQ,
Would AOSP support 32bit Ubuntu host building for Gingerbread in future?

Unlikely, for several reasons:
-It's unlikely that we (Google) would risk switching toolchains so
late in the process (after we've shipped). See similarly how Froyo
continued being built with the same JDK 1.5 long after 1.6 was
available.
-We (Google) have learned the hard way that such changes are really
costly to go through, and we're trying very hard to minimize such
transitions.
-The current set of configuration parameters is already near-
impossible to manage. Adding another dimension would definitely bring
things over the edge.
