There's conflicting messages whether this is supported: one the one hand https://source.android.com/setup/start#create_acloud_instance suggests it is. On the other hand, the output says:

(Disclaimer: Local cuttlefish instance is not a fully supported
runtime configuration, fixing breakages is on a best effort SLO.)

In any case, I hope you can help regarding this issue.

Thanks a lot.

Thanks for reporting this Dean, we're in the process of removing the conflicting message to avoid future confusion.

As for the error that you're running into, could you try rebooting your host to see if that helps? We've recently updated the setup flow and have realized that running setup and then proceeding to create a local instance without a reboot runs into a similar issue that you've encountered that seems to be alleviated with a host reboot.

Hi Kevin, rebooting didn't help.

After reboot, I went to AOSP master repo, and ran:

$ source build/envsetup.sh
$ lunch aosp_cf_x86_phone-userdebug
$ acloud create --local-image --local-instance

When you say "running setup" needs to be done before creating the local instance, what exactly do you mean by "running setup"? The only steps I've done are source -> lunch -> make then acloud create. Are there more steps (e.g. related to group virtacces that needs to be done)?

Ah, could you try running `acloud setup --host`?

That should install some required packages (I was expecting acloud to automatically kick off setup the first time you run `acloud create ...` but maybe we have a bug there).

And after you run `acloud setup --host`, you will need to reboot your host (I'm sorry) for some changes to take.

If that still doesn't work, could you provide your system's details? (OS and version). Thanks for bearing with me on this and sorry this has been such a hassle.

The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 cuttlefish-common : Depends: python but it is not installable
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

This is likely related to Ubuntu 20.04 removing "python" package from  Python2. See https://github.com/RadeonOpenCompute/ROC-smi/issues/83 for similar issue.

Perhaps changing cuttlefish-common project deb package dependency from python to version specific python dependency (python3 if supported, python2 otherwise) as well as the cuttlefish-common script shebangs would fix this.

Thanks,

Hi Kevin, the specific "acloud setup --host" is fixed.

However, "acloud create --local-image --local-instance" is failing:

$ acloud create --local-image --local-instance

I have attached cuttlefish.zip containing the "useful debugging information" files.

Would you able to look into what is the issue?

launcher.log mentions:

Thank you.

We've seen the permissions errors go away after a reboot, have you reboot your host after running `acloud setup --host`?

I'm seeing the exact same problem on Ubuntu 18.04. (April 14th, 2020)

I'm trying to install the Cuttlefish packages according to the instructions at https://sites.google.com/junsun.net/how-to-run-cuttlefish/home#h.p_1tmL-CvpLe1P but I keep running into the error

dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of cuttlefish-common:
 cuttlefish-common depends on python2; however:
  Package python2 is not installed.

Note, of course, that python2 and python3 are both installed.

~/android-cuttlefish$ python --version
Python 2.7.17
~/android-cuttlefish$ python2 --version
Python 2.7.17
~/android-cuttlefish$ python3 --version
Python 3.6.9

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Today (April 15th, 2020) ran:

Yeah, there's a fix for this. After downloading the latest version of the cuttlefish code from git, go into the file debian/control
and remove the line "python2," from the file. Apparently this tells apt and dpkg that the code is dependent on the package "python2"
being installed.

Since 18.04 does not HAVE a package named "python2", this is a problem. Removimg the requirement for "python2" from the debian/control
file before building the deb package gets around the problem.
