I'm currently reading KitKat docs and it says:

"Android 4.4 introduces new platform support for secure NFC-based transactions through Host Card Emulation (HCE), for payments, loyalty programs, card access, transit passes, and other custom services. With HCE, any app on an Android device can emulate an NFC smart card, letting users tap to initiate transactions with an app of their choice — no provisioned secure element (SE) in the device is needed. Apps can also use a new Reader Mode to act as readers for HCE cards and other NFC-based transactions."

This is very interesting! Does anyone know what cards we use in Australia are compatible with ISO/IEC 14443-4 (ISO-DEP) ? Are Visa and Mastercard's paypass thing compatible? What about Myki (in Melbourne)? If yes, does this mean that we can develop an app that emulates Myki on a NFC supported phone?

Cheers

If that is correct could we use our Android Smartphone as a payment terminal?

No definitely not on the payment terminal - unless it was only used in house.

The PCI regulations were changed about two years ago to exclude mobile device apps except where used in-house as part of a PCI compliant program

"Apps can also use a new Reader Mode to act as readers for HCE cards and other NFC-based transactions."
Ignoring PCI compliance for a minute, does anybody have idea how to do this, any APIs???. I know Android phones can read/write to Tags, but how can it act as HCE card Reader?. I am curious to do this, would be great thing to demo.

Once you get past the encryption, emulating the myki card shouldn't be too difficult.

Explaining to the ticket inspector that you touched-on with your phone, may be a little harder.

Hi Aryan,
Did you find anything about this? I am interested in doing the same thing.
