Hello Androscoggin Beekeepers Club Member,
I hope the your bees have weathered the start of this cold winter and that you are excited for the start of the a series of exciting presentations we've lined up from experienced local beekeepers. Incoming ABC president Bill Hiss has lined up speakers for February, March, April and May. Be looking for more info regarding a complete schedule of speakers for Spring 2014, but to whet your appetite and to earn a spot on your calendar, here's what is coming up for Wednesday February 12:
The next meeting of the Androscoggin Beekeepers Club (ABC) will be held Wednesday, February 12 at Edward Little High School in Auburn. Club business will be conducted from 6:30 PM to 7:00 PM followed by the presentation "Mead Making and the Production of Beeswax Candles" from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
This month's speaker is Eastern Apicultural Society (EAS) certified master beekeeper Brian Pride of Bee Pride in Lebanon, Maine. A beekeeper since 2009, Brian teaches bee-related classes and workshops at the York County shop he co-owns with his wife Peggy. Committed to the Master Beekeeper’s mission of education and assistance to new and existing beekeepers, Brian is also an active instructor for local adult education courses. An award winning mead maker, Brian was awarded the 1st place ribbon and Silver Platter for his Elderberry mead at the 2012 EAS show held in Burlington, VT. In 2013, his mead placed 2nd in his division at the Mazer Cup International Mead Competition held in Boulder, Colorado.
