Hello. I have been using the FTP Server for several months now, and it works very well. I have tried about 20 FTP server apps in the app store, and this one is the best for my needs.

Recently, I upgraded my phone to an ASUS ZenFone 3 Laser running Android 7.1. The FTP Server program is giving a couple of problems that I hope you might be able to help me to resolve:

1. Most important: The server does not start when the device is booted. I think this is some problem with permissions. I need the server to start automatically on system boot.

2. Secondary importance: I am unable to change the default directory. It displays "/" but does not allow me to enter a different location, and does not offer any way to browse for a different folder.

I see from other posts that you are not actively developing FTP Server at this time. I am hoping you will be able to help me with fixing these problems. I will be happy to make a donation, if that will help.

Thanks,

Peter

Update:

I have found how to allow the server to start when the device boots. I found the "Auto-start Manager" (new feature for me), and was able to enable auto-start for the server.

So, now the only problem I have is #2: I cannot change the default directory.

Thanks

Hello Peter,

thank you for the nice feedback.

I have investigated upgrading the FTPServer for Android 7+, including default folder selection, usage of the new Storage Access Framework etc.
I came to the conclusion though, that I do not have the time necessary to make it work properly with the quality I would consider acceptable.
Since I also don't have the time to maintain an older version and offer the necessary support,
I decided to discontinue the project for now, and also removed it from the play store.

I hope you find an alternative that is current and actively maintained.

Andreas

Hi Andreas,

I'm sorry that you removed FTP Server from Playstore. I use it on one of my tablets for years, because it provides a log of activity. I cannot find other ones to do so.
Now I want
1. to install it on a new tablet [as well as continuing on my old one],
2. To reinstall it wen I do a Factory Reset on my old tablet.

I don't mind whether it starts automatically on reboot. Bu I do want a log, like FTP server gives.

Please would you re-upload it to Playstore, but add a warning that there are some limitations with Android 7?

I would be most grateful.

Thank you,

Andrew Basden,

Hi!

Sorry for the late reply and thank you for the nice feedback!

I do not plan to upload it to the play store again. If I do that, I feel it is my responsibility to keep it updated, and unfortunately I do not have the time for active development.
Adding a warning has the problem that it will not be read by most users, and lead to dissatisfaction and negative reviews.

What I could do though, is re-releasing it again and limiting the android versions that it can be used with... I will think about that.

In the mean time:
What version do you currently use? It should say so at the bottom right of the FTPServer.
If you let me know the version, I can send you the APK directly and you can install it on your tablet(s).

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Br,
Andreas
