ES File Explorer pro has a feature where you can select "Remote Manager" and turn on FTP access to locations including the SDCards.

You can not by default write to the card, but they have an option where if you try and create a file on the card in the standard ES File Explorer UI, and it fails, they ask you to select the card and Android gives permission.

In the attached video, I try add a file to /storage/sdcard2
The file create fails, and ES File Explorer has me select it to grant permission.
The I use my FTP app to upload a text file "knowndaps.plist"

This may be the way to solve your issue. I need to be able to have ftp access to /storage/sdcard1   and   /storage/sdcard2

ESFileExplorer will not allow me to make /storage the root or this would be solved with them already.
