Adding routing and POI search support for a new country (Argentina)

I hope this is the right place to ask this question, sorry if it
isn't, I'm a bit lost with the move to google code and all.
I'm trying to figure out what would I need to do to enable doing OSM-
based POI searches and navigation for my country, Argentina, which
apparently is not currently available. There is of course already a
lot of information in OSM, including POIs such as gas stations, etc.
Can anybody share a pointer on how to start getting into this?
